How about Mahe Fonua

I'm a big believer in signing players from clubs with strong systems and culture.

As much as I don't like the Storm I would sign player from the club because they have been influence by some of the best players in the modern game.

This bloke is off contract and I think he might be the type of player we need.

  • Dont think Melb would let him go. They will offer a decent contract. Anyone wanting his signature will have to pay overs. Im over paying overs for players.

  • I like his versatility. Can play back row as well as centre and wing.
I guess with Waqa going to Canberra, they'll probably have the money to sign him.

    I like the back line

    Hayne
    Radradra
    Hopoate
    Fonua
    Faraimo

  • Prepared to be shot down for this given that Vai Toutai isn't the most popular player these days but I see a lot of Toutai in Mahe Fonua. A raw, physical outside back (that can cover wing/centre) with plenty of power and just enough speed. Funnily enough, Fonua has been good for soft handling errors since debuting in 2012 but seems to have finally outgrown that habit this season. If Toutai is afforded the same luxury to grow, perhaps he might develop into a similar player.

That isn't to say that Fonua wouldn't be a solid acquisition but I feel that we have too much young talent already pushing through (Davis, Lavaka, Goodall, Li etc) in conjunction with our existing contracted players (Hopoate, Champion, Morgan, Radradra, Toutai) along with the supposed signing of Eto Nabuli to justify the cap space he would take.

  • Has anyone seen Solomona Kata, a young Warriors centre playing in their reserve grade side. Looks the goods & is similar imo to Konred Hurrell in build & playing style.

    • Never seen him but with the name like Solomona we can't go wrong.
  • 2 centres off contract still that wouldn't cost to much that is like to have a crack at are

    Fonua and Auva'a from Souths
  • Normally don't get into the let's sign blogs BUT reckon he just the type we need out there.

All I could think, watching him against Bronco's last round was how much he reminded me of Tepai.

Why wouldn't you want two of these type of players.

    • What ^ said
  • Given that he is the first Melbourne junior to come through the ranks, im not sure he will be going anywhere soon
  • I think he would be a great signing and I blogged it a while back, but I have a feeling BA will go with what we have for next season and go hard for Izzy in 2016. With a lot of players off contract at the end of next season I think Izzy will be a priority. If Hoppa fails to deliver he will be gone and his money will be used for Izzy. This will give our juniors a chance to take the other centre position. If Hoppa hits form, he may be offered another contract, but on a lot less than what he is on now. Mossop and Lussick are off contract next year and there is a lot of money tied up in these two players which could be used towards getting Izzy if Hoppa is retained.

We are in a good position with the likes of Moeroa, Pauli, Jnr Paulo, Folau, Goodall, Davis, Edwards, Matterson etc, all on modest salaries. This will help us get Izzy and a top line FRF.
