Parramatta closing in on Scott

PARRAMATTA have emerged as the new favourites to sign Newcastle hard man Beau Scott.

The Broncos, with Wayne Bennett a close ally of Scott’s, were in the box seat to pick up the Blues enforcer in recent weeks.

But the Eels have weighed in with a solid offer and it is one the Broncos will struggle to match given the make-up of their salary cap.

Eels coach Brad Arthur loves an aggressive forward pack and Scott is seen as the perfect foil for the likes of Anthony Watmough and Manu Ma’u.

The deal is a long way from done but it’s looking increasingly like Scott will leave the Knights - and be in blue and gold next season.

  • well he is mobile big and grubby. Seems he can also help defend on the edges.

Thats not good news for Edwards as the rest are all locked up long time.

Pauli Pauli will be with the club he is big mobile and is dangerous and we need his type on the ground when we have players needing a breather.

  • At first thought I was against signing Scott as we seem to be well stocked for back-rowers. However, our top 4 backrow rotation of edwards, mau, watmough, and moeroa are all prone to injury and havnt managed a full season of nrl yet. So to rely on all of them being fit and injury-free for a full season would be poor man management which makes the Scott signing a smart decision, considering the importance we are placing on our backrow. This gives us 4-5 rep quality backrowers that we can shuffle and rotate dependingon circumstances.

I still maintain that pauli paulis long-term position is as a tackle-busting offloading front rower. He doesnt have the mobility to defend out wide. And gower is the ultimate bench forward as he can literally play anywhere in the forward pack besides hooker. So signing scott wouldnt affect these two.

Also if you're looking for someone to protect and assist sandow in defence, then I cant really think of a better option than scott. He pretty much shut down most qlds left side attack in origin last year, and never leaves his half in a 1on1 situation.

Finally, when you consider watmough and scott are probably lookingat their last contract before retirement or super league, they will be finishing up at the perfect time for tyrell fuimaono and josh aloia to come through. I personally have big raps on both these players and think they will be the most likely to crack nrl out of our current crop of young forwards.
  • We have enough promising forwards we just need a solid fullback
  • I'm all for it if we can get him on unders, tough aggressive player.
  • Would be great as the only player that we have now that would get affected is Seffa and for 1 I would love to have him and get rid of crab for good. Like I stated in a previous blog Mannah, Peats Jnr Paulo, Ma'u, Scott, Watmough and a bench of Wicks, Edwards, Moeroa and Gower would be great. Hard and solid both in attack and defense some thing crab could never be.
