Hooroo to Guru?

He must be pretty serious about chasing the big bucks in Japanese Rugby if he's sent them a highlights CD... Would suck to see him leave with a year still to go on his contract."ERIC Grothe Jr could farewell rugby league on the grand stage at ANZ Stadium tonight if Parramatta bow out to the Bulldogs. The Guru has been sniffing out opportunities in Japanese rugby for two months, and stepped up his cross-code crusade a fortnight ago by posting a highlights CD to the Land of the Rising Sun.According to UK sources, Grothe even knocked back a deal from Super League outfit Hull to pursue the big money. His new manager Andrew Purcell has previously denied any Japanese negotiations, but a raft of well-placed people at Parramatta have been telling us otherwise for the past six weeks.Eels officials certainly won't stand in Grothe's way if he secures a rich deal - and not because they want him out for salary-cap purposes.Parramatta can afford to accommodate the 29-year-old's final year, but he's well-liked by those above and neither the new Parramatta board nor CEO Paul Osborne will begrudge him a handsome superannuation."http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/it-could-be-hooroo-for-eric-grothe/story-e6frfgbo-1225779194972

  • Highlights CD? Of his band? Or maybe a highlights DVD of his footy skills? I'm confused.
    • Footy skills I'd say... though he may have chucked in his band's demo as well, maybe tee up a few gigs on the side... haha

    • I saw Osborne on one of the Fox programs and they asked about Guru and he said 'he's contracted till next year but I'm not sure what Eric's longer term plans are'.

That to me sounded like it was pretty likely he'd be moving on.

As I've said all year, we're going to really miss those second hit ups. Having a couple of big blokes like Inu and Tahu will help, though.
  • Gunna miss those rampaging runs coming out of our own area......great player and great bloke and will be missed if he does leave
  • It would surprise me if Eric left because his band would basically fall apart ,you cant go overseas for months at a time and expect to be a sucess in music.

"The chances of him being our 6 next year are very low, if he was a serious consideration he would be playing 6 now with dylan at centre. I'll be very surprised if he is our starting 6 next season unless he gets a lot more time there this season. "

"I think Joash is a good player, but from what I've seen only at fullback or on the wing. Those positions we've got pretty well covered, so I guess he's a great back up option. I'd like to see him in 1st grade, but I dont know how he fits in?"
