Hooker

Next year Reed will be coming back from shoulder surgery after injuring it twice this year I think it would be unfair to expect 80 min efforts from him.

Currently we only have Nate Roche on the books who has had a injury plagued career.

Hopefully we find a suite back up I'm personally not a fan of having a 2 hookers in the 17 I'd rather a genuine utility.

One idea with merit that would suite us is starting Stone at 9 for the opening 20 then bringing Reed on for a middle forward and moving Stone into the middle similar to what Storm do. We won't loose anything in defense with Stone at 9 in fact we'd gain a bit then when Reed comes on we gain alot in attack.

I know Stones last game was highlighted by some mistakes but in fairness he had played more minimum there then originally planned due to waqa going for a HIA and I think fatigue played a part

Anyway just something think over as we go into another trophyless off season

  • I've always maintained that you need to go 4 deep at dummy half, with a utility as insurance. The position is the rugby league equivalent of an NFL quarterback in terms of importance and specialisation. You really need 2 starting caliber 9's, a tough veteran who can give you spot minutes & a rookie you're developing.

  • We definitely need NRL quality backup hooker. We beat Melbourne with Lussick (sad to see him leave). I'm not sure what the options are for 2022 but we definitely need to have something in place. Reed can't do it alone.

    • Especially with Hooker being so vital. Having our whole season depending on bubble boy not getting injured again is not ideal.

      • Especially with Roaches injury history

  • Story on daily Telegraph website saying we are in talks with Mitch Rein

    • Iv'e always rated Mitch Rein, back to his Deagons days. He would be ideal as our 3rd string, if, if we can keep Roache fit.

      • What Brettles said ^ . Type of player that Mahoney could learn off too.  Hopefully Peachy comes with him.

      • Yep, would take Rein. Smart recruitment. I still like Nate Roache. He's a creative dummy half having played halves in his junior days. When I watched him in reserve grade the side always looked more threatening with him on the field. Just needs to stay healthy.

        Mahoney

        Rein

        Roache

        Stone

Would be my depth chart if we didn't happen to also grab Tyrone Peachey.

  • Would like starling

    • Yeah, he'd be ok too, but with constant speculation around Josh Hodgson I doubt Sticky will let him go.
