Home audio advice?

Hi all,

Ive got some old sony speakers that came with a hifi system in which nothing works but the auxiliary input which is connected to my PC. Speakers sound great but I just need to get a new amp that just drives left and right channels and the subwoofers that are built into the speakers. There's no wattage written on the speakers but the Hifi has 185W written on it.I'm assuming that's the total. So I want an amp that''l have bluetooth and a few different aux inputs and a phono input for the old vinyl. Don't need anything too expensive, i was hoping for around $400. Any ideas would be appreciated, struggling with internet shopping.

Thanks dudes!

    • All right. So I picked up this one. Hooked it all up, sounds great. Because the old hi fi must have an amp in it driving the subs, I can't hook up the speaker subs without an external amp to drive them, (only got a pre out), so now I'll see if I can rip the sub amp circuit out of the stereo and use that, or get my electronic wiz cousin to rig up something that'll do the job, haha the joys of putting together the wrong lego, can't say no one warned me...
  • Just realised it doesn't look to have a phono input ..
    • Thanks Wiz, looks good apart from that. Blacktown area is me, I might give em a call see what they've got, cheers mate
    • Having a bit of a scour around it seems you may defs need a pre amp for your price range . eBay have them a bit cheaper than Harvey Norman .
  • Are your existing speakers really worth something or just sentimental? It might be better going for a whole new system rather trying to make random pieces work together.
    • It's kinda like that isn't it . Why buy a nice new digital receiver and then hook it up to some old Sony speakers . Its a waste to spend that kind of money and not get the amps full potential. It's a dangerous web is home audio .

I can picture Tentonz coming home 3 grand poorer today .
    • If your assumptions about the speaker Wattage are correct...
  • I might be silly but not that silly! The speakers crank for the room etc and I'm pretty restricted for space and they fit nice with everything else and I thought I could do something cheaper to get them going AND have the luxury of the modern controls.
