HODKINSON A DOG, KEATING STAYN HOME?

Trent Hodkinson has signed a 3year contract worth $800,000 with the bulldogs....

Also when Kevin Moore was asked about Keating he did say they were very intrested in him to join Hodkinson but Keating was keen to stay put here at the eels....

What I dont get is why would he want to stay here yet at parra if they stil havent offered him a contract?

I know that parra are waiting to see what they can do with cronk but in my eyes i see it as a very sad and nervous time for keating as the poor kid is waiting on the fate of cronk and where he goes...

if cronk was to come here would keating be shown the door?

Another thing how will this whole saga with keating not been offered at contract affect him on field?

knowing that parra only want him if they cant get cronk?

I know id feel like shit knowing that i may not be wanted for someone else and that im only offered a contract cos the other player they wanted they couldnt afford.

  • hodkinson has done well since leaving Parra and another in the halves that has done well since leaving parra is James Maloney. Some talented halves getting around.
    • I don't know.... Both have had probably 6 good games in total in 1st grade. Hodkinson, like our own Dan Mortimer, must feel like he's won the lottery with this 3 year deal - it just shows the dearth of quality number 7's out there when a guy who's played less than half a season of 1st grade is suddenly attracting offer of $260K+ a year. I mean, it's not like he's dominating week to week. He's solid, probably better than average at the moment, but since Lyon has been out, both himself and Foran have looked to be lacking that extra something...
  • I don't know why every one keeps saying that cronk is off contract. Melbourne will definitely keep him
    • under the current cap for 2011 they would have to let him go in order to keep slater smith and inglis
  • I think Cronk may be a higher priority than Inglis now. They'll be doing all they can to keep that 1, 7 and 9 together....
    • Inglis is looking more likely ending up at the Drongos next year if my (supposedly) informed Qld source is correct so if that happens then Cronk will be vital to the Storm.
  • EelLetric that is a spot on comment.

I keep hearing that its fine to pay Mortimer what we are because he is just young and learning his trade and is going to come good, but isn't it really the equivalent of paying an apprentice a tradesman's wage?

If he is learning his trade then he really should be doing it in reserve grade, but the fact is there are not enough halfbacks running around so unless you play a young guy early he is going to leave your club to play elsewhere and not only that you have to pay him a fair bit too - simple supply and demand.

It's a bit of a shame for the viewer though who pays their own hard earned cash to watch a kid learn how to attack the line and kick for position.
  • I don't know why you've ripped into Trent - good on him for getting the deal - but I don't think he's worth that much money.

I've heard nothing to suggest that KK's deal won't get done. It would be lunacy for the club to let him go.
    • I rate Trent and if he hadnt blown his knee with us who knows ! The kid has done the hard yards won the QLD cup beating Humble and done a great job at Manly. He is tough and has a good kicking game. Cant run but can pass and kick. Will be solid at the Dogs but they are in transition and wont be as aggressive as Manly and that will challenge him. cant see him linking well with Ben Barba
  • have to agree eellectric i think clubs are paying too much for players that we havent seen much of, i mean even parra payed too much for mortimer. In my opinion soward is one of the best halves going around and he signed with the dragons for less than we did with mortimer and maybe the dogs with hodkinson And barett i mean the shows payed not much for him and he has shown hes got the good( playing origin over these young blokes). He has been playing consistent footy week in and out compares to our own mortimer and others. Just shows that teams have the cash to throw around and they believe halves are hard to come by.

hope we sign humble up before it gets out hes half decent or we will loose him or have to fork out big $$ just like with mortimer and keating.
