Clint Gutherson's team 'frustrated' by contract delays as St George move looms

placeholder.pngParramatta has agreed to release captain Clint Gutherson from his Eels deal so he can join a rival club.

Clint Gutherson's talks with the Dragons are not going as smoothly as the star expected, with his camp frustrated with the pace of negotiations, reports 9News' Danny Weidler.

The Parramatta Eels granted Gutherson an immediate release from the final year of his contract, to allow him to link with the Dragons, who had expressed strong interest in the fullback.

Negotiations between club and player got serious just hours after the club parted ways with Ben Hunt.

Gutherson, who was on a deal of about $900,000-a-season at Parramatta and was expected to land at the Dragons on a similar contract, was reportedly on the verge of inking a three-year deal with the club but that has stalled.

Weidler reports that tensions are beginning to boil inside Gutherson's camp.

"Clint Gutherson's camp is frustrated at the pace of negotiations with the Dragons," Weidler wrote on X.

"He is what the club needs when it comes to drive and leadership. Hopefully it won't go off course."

Gutherson debuted in the blue and gold jumper in 2016 following three seasons with the Manly Sea Eagles.

It remains unclear what position Gutherson would play for the Dragons, with the club keen to hold onto young gun Tyrell Sloan, although coach Shane Flanagan has made it clear he would be open to moving the flashy young star to the wing.

Gutherson would be the Dragons' third big signing for next season after clinching the signatures of Damien Cook and Valentine Holmes for 2025.

  • Gutho and his manager up to their old tricks again - playing it in the media once more.

It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds.

    • Yep and go straight to the media when you don't get your way.

    • Most likely waiting on fitness results but it's typical Dragons... can't seem to retain players and can't sign anyone decent on the market

  • The Gutho circus meets the dragons...

    • What a circus lol.  Gutherson and his manager can't keep their bs behind closed doors

      • Dragons supporter forum will be in meltdown! Lol

  • MMM it is, Bert lol.

As much we'll miss the on-field King, it's hard to miss the King Hits off it.

After the Dragons media-circus with Hunt (and recent comments by Lomax), it makes you wonder how'll they'll react.

Personally, I think many fans are like me - sick and tired of player manager games and players not owning it.

    • A very big AGREE HOE

  • Not sure the rules, but if the dragqueens deal falls through does Gutho still have a contract at PARRA or is he unsigned for next year?

    • Mutual release is a mutual release. The Eels have agreed to release Gutho meaning No contract with the Eels and no on going freight is my understanding. There is a caveat though.

The Eels have agreed to release Gutho and everyone is working on that assumption including all media and us at this website. However there has been no official press release from the club that they have actually released him, and he is departing the Eels. Players like RCG and Sivo were offically announced . Gutho hasnt..

So What does that actually mean.
