I believe for the eels to make the eight this year we have to play up tempo style of footy. We need to have the quickest defensive line speed in the comp utilising our mobile pack. With the changes in the policing of the ruck, line speed will become a major factor in dominating the middle .We are not a team that likes the grind. We struggle to win physical encounters.Although the on going improvement of our pack could change this I'd prefer to kick early in sets instead of grinding and attack with our defence .To compliment our fast mobile pack, I'd like BA in deciding the make up of our back line to opt for pace when it's a line ball call. I know his preference is for a defensive player, our weakness this year will be our ability to score points and you can't coach pace. last year we had a unique style of attack.Hopefully it's been refined in the off season to suit our current roster.I don't want to see the eels play like Souths,Dogs or Roosters. We've always had our own style of football . With the change of policing of the ruck I'm hoping we can get back to some of that free flowing football our best teams have been renowned for.Im interested to see if the eels this year change their tactics against certain clubs or play their style of footy and force other teams to change theirs. It's hard to predict how we will go this year. The three things I'd like to see improved is a controlled kicking game, play with intensity in the first twenty and compete even when we fall behind instead of this capitulation we've become accustomed .

  • With our small pack we can't just bash and barge as teams will gang tackle us so we have to play smart. This means more offloads from the forwards either before or at the line to help break up the defensive line. We also need quick speed off our line in defence as we have to stop big packs like Souffs and Storm getting up too much speed to also dominate us and cut down their thinking time. Most importantly when we dominate in tackles we have to lock up the ball. Too many times last year we had 3 defenders on a player who simply passed the ball out the back, this has to stop.

  • Think we'll be a grinding style of team based on defence. We have to be, we won't be scoring 24+ points per game without JH and with the players we have. The training blogs suggested a focus on keeping the opposition inside their 20 for as long as possible. Sandow is our only real player who can make something out of nothing, there is no other real x factor. Semi is perhaps, and hopefully Norman, Hoppa really lift. We need to defend very well, a lot better than last yr to win games in 2015.
