The Queen, Britain's longest-serving monarch, has passed away at the age of 96 after 70 years on the throne.

Buckingham Palace has said the Queen 'died peacefully' this afternoon at Balmoral. The King and Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral and return to London tomorrow.

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Thursday lunchtime that Her Majesty had been under medical supervision at Balmoral after her doctors had become "concerned" about her health.

All of the Queen's children, as well as the Duke of Cambridge, travelled immediately to Balmoral. The Queen was last pictured formally appointing the new Prime Minister, Liz Truss, at Balmoral on Tuesday, her final public duty. She postponed a virtual Privy Council meeting the following day after being advised by doctors to rest.

Queen Elizabeth II is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her eldest son, Prince Charles, will now become King, while his eldest son, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, assumes the position of heir to the throne.

  • Thanks Mitchy.I just saw this on the News and it rattled me. I think she has been a good Queen.I do like cultural traditions and I think her passing will bring us to a new world of sorts. Lots of big identity deaths this year also makes you aware of how the world is changing and opening some real concern about challenging times for the world.

    • Thanks Tad, cheers. I heard on the radio over this a'noon she was v unwell. People were already talking about this and mentioned her health is not often discussed in the media. The flag lowered around 6:30 pm over Buckingham Palace here and news men have to change outfits to wear black ties; i also heard all UK planes have to announce the death also through their pilots when the Queen passes.

Agreed she has been a good queen and someone who devoted her life to the role / duty. My wife recently had me start watching the netflix series (Crown), and it has been very well made. Yes Tad, The Queen has passed now, and for me the other King (Shane Warne) too.

    • Well Tad, it won't be long and You, me and Slugg will be meeting her......fcuk I am going to haunt a few bastards on here! Lol

      • Pops I really admire her for still managing to do some duties at 96. I hope when we meet her she can make us a nice morning tea.

  • What team does she play for?

    • Crystal Palance....small mob out the back of London.

  • Probably the best one out of all of them.

With dopey Charlie now King, Republicans will be pushing for change once the mourning period is over.

    • RIP our Queen

"You will never see equality if you think indigenous rights are the solution. Inequality is increasing, not decreasing, especially since elites began to make their populations focus on token gestures like that."
