Right so, people here surely know i am one not to throw around rumours at all. I had a tip off tonight from a source within the NRL that the Bulldogs cannot register a 30 man squad unless they become cap compliant, they have around 15 players on train and trial deals and cannot register them due to the 120K increase of minimum wage. They are signing players like Reynolds to save coin, desperately offloading Thompson, Burns and even Flanagan, which is why they wanted Duffy from NQ to start him cheap.
Is this a long shot? I am guessing so. Would i back the Bulldogs, at $31, for the spoon? Not at the moment. Would it be funny? It would be. Does it make sense? I think it does yes.
People will call BS, fair enough as it could be, but thought i'd at least bring it up as it is fun to discuss and theorize. Just please don't abuse me as if it is wrong then i apologise, i never do this nor like it, but if it is right of course i want to say told you so hahaha.

Actually Ive specualated a couple of times that the rise in min salary would damage their plan to top off their roster with nufties.
Its no secret that this was their plan. Definitely a possibility this is true.
Welcome to the Bulldogs Mahoney, hope it was worth it...
Again it could be way off and not true at all, or could be true but they fix it.
All I'll be doing is saying we will take Thompson off their hands if they fork half the bill.
They let Allan go also but he was on good coin too, they have to be forking out some of that bill also.
You can see what Gus is doing, he walked into Canterbury thinking he can do what he did at Penrith. He then realised he wasn't able to due to junior bases just not being there for Canterbury, if they were it would take double the time setting up.
So he's decided to go the "buy a comp" approach, in that win a comp in 2-3 years, wipe his hands and walk away. Then the club will be in cap hell or lose all their players at once and be back to where they were, Gould will say "Not my fault, I got you a premiership"
This is a quick ego boost for him to get a comp quick and get out. I admit the signings he's got at very impressive though.
Gould has been associated with the dogs since early 80's as a player and successfull coach yet you say he has no knowledge of their junior bases. Your assumptions are rubbish.
Before you pitchfork Gus, go back and have a look at the Panthers team circa 2014. Almost no Panthers juniors, the entire team was imports.
Building a junior development system from scratch takes years, it did with the Panthers, it has for us, it will for the Dogs. In the meantime, they need to be competitive.
we should take pangi jr off there hands
If the betting agencies haven't adjusted or suspended their markets I wouldn't believe it. They have insiders everywhere and are the best gauge for news like this. Has the Bulldogs price for spoon come in at all?
That is true, though it might be also waiting for CBA to be finalised and see what they do there.
I wouldn't be putting any of my money on it at this stage though, knowing Gould he wouldn't let this tarnish his legacy.
Note that the betting agencies typically don't run a "Wooden Spoon" market any more, they run a "Least Number Of Wins" market. This covers them for any salary cap penalties that might otherwise send a well performing club to the bottom of the ladder.
