Hayne's threat to walk away.

HE'S regarded by many as the face of rugby league, but Eels superstar Jarryd Hayne has warned his legion of fans he might not finish his career in the NRL.

  • Disappointing comments by Hayne. IMO he is the most capapble on field leader at our club.... but off the fleld is a different story.
  • Yes, he needs a bit of media training!!! But I guess when you're in the Australian team you're surrounded by the highest paid players in the game who have most to lose over the cap. As someone suggested the other day - each club gets three marquee players who are exempt from the cap, the other 20-odd have to stay under the $4.1 mill.
    • Yep, spot on. I would ask anyone on this forum to answer this honestly - If you were working a job getting paid $60K per year and along came a similar company who were after staff with your skill-set but were offering $100K per year if not more, what would you do? I guess, firstly, if you really loved the place where you currently worked you would go to them and say "Look boss, I've just been offered nearly double what you are paying by this other mob. Any chance you can try and match that offer as I'd really like to stay here". If your boss did nothing and kept paying you the same salary what would you do? I know what I'd do...
  • Rugby League was better in the 70's & 80's when it wasn't a business and today's players don't even have half the talent. How many times I have stopped watching a non Parra game on TV! Maybe I'm the only person who thinks this?
    • Disagree. Every time I see an old grand final on TV I'm amazed by how backward it is. Can you imagine the skinny outside backs of those days mixing it with Inglis, Tahu and Hodges?
The players also have the right to point to other Australian sports whose athletes, often inferior to them, are earning twice as much. That's before you even look at overseas.
  • Let's just get a title before 2014 and then I don't care if they all leave.
    • Tell Hayne that! He should shut his mouth......I've been waiting 24 years for free. lol
  • Disappointing comments for mine.

He is earning very good coin in the NRL, yes he could earn more elsewhere in all probability but he knew that when he put pen to paper.

He is better off than 99.99% of 22 year olds in this country and while he can have his opinion on the effects of the salary cap he should not be relating it to his own circumstance and crying poor mouth.

I doubt he is thinking these comments through, shut your pie hole Jarryd and keep playing great footy.
    • I mostly agree.
I like what Steve Price has done. He is going to leave Rugby League and has a qualification that he has worked hard to achieve while playing football. With a Masters in Business he'll probably be capable of earning even more than he does in league.
  • I'm sure eels players like Luke Burt who sign on for a bit less share our disappointment.
