HAYNE vs. DUGAN

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/josh-dugan-hunting-jarryd-haynes-nsw-spot/story-e6frexnr-1225993275196JOSH Dugan has thrown down the gauntlet to NSW fullback Jarryd Hayne by declaring he wants the Blues No. 1 jersey this year.Dugan was named as a shadow player for Origin II last year after a stunning performance in his debut for Country. The 20-year-old now believes he's ready to deliver for the Blues at fullback. After three days with Ricky Stuart's 51-man Blues In Waiting squad, Dugan told The Daily Telegraph he was desperate to play Origin. "I feel like I'm the sort of player who, when a big game comes up, I rise for the occasion," he said."I've always found I do that in grand finals in younger grades. I don't let it get to me and try to rise to that level."The Canberra custodian, who has added 4kg to his lanky 91kg frame, said the Raiders were ready to kick on after their finals campaign last year and hailed the arrival of former Manly halfback Matt Orford.HOPEFULLY THIS IS JUST MORE MOTIVATION FOR HAYNE TO BRING THAT BRILLIANCE TO EVERY GAME ALSO

  • personally i think Dugan has potential but up against Hayne hes nothing
  • In some ways Dugan is a better fullback - but Hayne is and always will be a better footballer and if it comes down to one or the other, Dugan stands no chance.
  • I think the only thing that really lets Hayne down is his positional play when defending. Can be left open at times.
  • Hayne is better than Slater ,so Dugan stands no chance .
  • Consistency is a big key for Jarryd this year and I agree his positional play will come under intense scrutiny aswell. If he can address these issues - then Dugan is no chance of taking his fullback spot.

  • Especially when we played the bulldogs and he smashed David Stagg to prevent him from scoring
    • EXACTLY! Hayne has gotten alot better in defensive play last year.
  • i was at the country game and he play well but i don't think he will be a chance against the hayne/plane/trane/crane
  • I agree, the NSW selectors are idiots! Hayne for sure, Dugan is not in the same class at the moment.
  • I think that before last season's re-emergence of Todd Carney as a top flight 5/8th, I could see Hayne being used at 5/8th for NSW with Dugan at fullback. However, now that Carney and Pearce will no doubt be the Blues halves in this year's SOO series, you need to give Hayne a roving commission and that can be difficult to do from the wing, whereas it's much easier from fullback.

Dugan might find himself on the wing.

"Blore is average. We are top heavy for forwards, very light on in the backs, now you want to get rid of two backs for an average forward. I'm glad Mon is part of the recruitment team, and not you."
