I saw this headline in the "Australian" or my have been "Sydney Morning Herald" this morning. Never had the chance to read any details. It`s a good thing to hit Greenberg right between the eyes just as he is about to ruin the Eels season. If JH did go to OZ union, it would be a body blow for Greenberg`s NRL from a publicity angle. JH would attract more TV viewers and see a decline in NRL viewers. That at time when things are going pear shape for Greenberg`s tenure as CEO of the NRL. It was said last night that the SOO 3 would attract 50,000 at most if played last night. They are even dropping prices to boost the crowd.
All this might mean that Greenberg may have to offer JH money to stay in the NRL. That effectively means that NRL money goes to the Eels in the first instance! As the Eels financial plight has been leaked to the media a one million fine would not help the Eels sign JH. So maybe some cool heads might convince Greenberg to pull his head in money wise. Rugby League got established in Australia when Union star player Dally Messenger switched to league in 1908. It will be ironic if Rugby League is brought to its knees in 2016 if league star Jarryd Hayne switches to Union. Under Greenberg this might just happen.
