Hayne, Hindmarsh, Moimoi dominate 2009 1Eyed Eel Awards

Jarryd Hayne has won the 2009 1Eyed Eel Player of the Year as voted by more than 80 1Eyed Eel members. But as brilliant as Hayne was, it was still Nathan Hindmarsh who 1Eyed Eel members respect most for his tireless efforts and clubmanship, winning our inaugural 1Eyed Eel Award. Meanwhile, Fuifui Moimoi dominated as Forward of the Year and was also runner up in the Player of the Year votes. PLAYER OF THE YEAR WINNER. JARRYD HAYNE: Dally M medalist and widely regarded as the best player in the world, Hayne not surprisingly dominated Player of the Year votes 2. FUIFUI MOIMOI: The rampaging front rower was a clear second place after his heroics throughout the year 3. NATHAN HINDMARSH: The first time Hindmarsh has not won the 1Eyed Eel Player of the Year, however Hindmarsh still figured prominently in the polling BEST BACK WINNER. JARRYD HAYNE: Took home nearly every top vote in a dominant polling 2. LUKE BURT: A solid year from Burt, finished with some great form on the flank saw Burt poll a clear second-place 3. DANIEL MORTIMER: Came from no where to become our dominant half and earn third-placed as Best Back HONORABLE MENTION: JOEL REDDY: Cast aside any doubts he couldn't play centre and provided the Eels with great service every week BEST FORWARD WINNER. FUIFUI MOIMOI: Finished the year rated as the Best Prop in the World after producing some of the most dominate front row performances in recent memory 2. NATHAN HINDMARSH: Clear second choice after producing a great year. Was as valuable as ever in defence but gave new life to his attacking game with regular offloads 3. BEN SMITH: Really turned his season around and by the end of the year, was producing dynamic performances in the second row HONORABLE MENTIONS: Nathan Cayless and Matt Keating also polled well following consistent seasons, while TIm Mannah wasn't too far behind MOST IMPROVED WINNER: JEFF ROBSON: Was the player nobody wanted to see in the side, earlier in the year but made his knockers eat humble pie by cementing the number seven jersey and then producing a Man of the Match performance in the preliminary final 2. TODD LOWRIE: Another player who was much maligned before earning the respect of all Parramatta fans with some greatly improved performances in the back end of the season 3. JARRYD HAYNE: After a very ordinary year where he failed to deliver to his potential in 2008, Hayne re-discovered his brilliance to take his game to new levels in 2009 HONORABLE MENTION: Daniel Mortimer who rose from NYC to cement a spot in the Eel's halves and Joel Reddy who also took his game up a notch this year 1EYED EEL AWARD WINNER: NATHAN HINDMARSH. Continues to make Eels fans proud with both his on-field performances and his impeccable image off the field. A true club legend. 2. JARRYD HAYNE: Many Eels fans questioned Hayne's attitude and application last year, but not this year with Eels fans voting Hayne into second place, based on his effort, consistent and clubmanship. 3. LUKE BURT: Another great clubman, Burt had his finest year for a long time and as always, was a great representative for the club off the year. HONORABLE MENTION: Fuifui Moimoi just missed a place after leading the club forward in 2009 and Joel Reddy also polled very well, with Eel's fans showing great admiration for his effort and application.

  • "FUIFUI MOIMOI: The rampaging second rower " ---- LOL
    • Argh, fixed. I swear I've done my head in, adding up all those votes!
      • Mate you did a terrific job, thanks for everything, keep up the good work .
      • What got the vote as the best game of the year?
  • Nicely done 1Eyed!

Good results all round. Hard to go past Hayne, Hindmarsh and Fui as the top men this year.

It's just so great that so many of our team have had a big year. It was a 1 in a million season. i just wish we had a premiership to show for it.

We just have to make next year even bigger!
  • Well compiled Phil.... that must have taken you ages to put that together.

I agree with all results other than the order of Most Improved, and Ben Smith in 3rd as forward of the year. While im a Benny Smith fan and agree his form at the end of the year was compelling, I dont think he did enough for the entire season to earn 3rd, however i wont begrudge the big man of his 3rd spot.

I think we should send these to the club. I'll try get them passed on to Ozzie. im sure it would be a big boost to some of the guys on the list!
  • Yeah thanks Phil, great poll. And now for 2010
  • Thanks for your hard work in adding up numbers Phil! :-)

P.S. I must congratulate my unsung heroes - Todd and Jeff Robson on their mentions! Thanks to everyone who voted for them. :-)
  • Cheers Phil, great effort doing these awards. Was an enjoyable read.
  • BTW, Todd Lowrie still doesn't have my respect! His performances didn't improve all that much at the back end of the season... he just looked good while the team was on fire. His passing is still woeful and it looks like at times he doesn't know what sport he's playing in attack!!

Ryles seems to really want him. Like really really want him. That's enough for me for now. "
