Hayne 2nd most powerful person in league!

Just been reading the article on Hayne apparently being the second most powerful figure in league

God I just hope all this publicity does not backfire on him, I can see every non parra player in the league doing there best to take him out, or make sure he is bought down a peg or two, even if is only the media that is hyping him up.  I hope he is up to the challenge and the pressure it all brings, and does not result in him trying to hard to keep it all up.

  • Number 2 has been........dennis fitzgerald......
  • I read the same article in the Daily Telegraph here in Sydney and again, I am astonished at the comments left by readers regarding Hayne! Its true, the media are absolutely in love with him and are armed with pen at the ready at his every move, but it seems that whenever there's an article on Hayne, the punters just give it to him!

There's an endless stream of namecalling and 'how overrated he is' etc, leaving only the obvious Eels fans to stick up for him. I have mates who follow other sides and they can't stand him!

Why is this? It seems that outside of younger kids, he is generally disliked. He doesn't seem like a massive 'big-head' as some other greats have been so why the negativity?

I don't recall people bagging Fittler or Daley or Johns or Lockyer like this. And none of them are/were saints!!
  • He is a little different to a Fittler or a Johns though.

I agree he isn't a bighead, I have actually met him a couple of times through a mate of mine and he is a not arrogant but at the same time he isn't a typical 'knock around' bloke either he is a bit aloof and quiet.

All good though - most fans of other teams probably don't like him because he was ripping them up last year. Also the fact that he went from 0 to 100 last year in terms of form has probably left some wondering if it was a fluke.
  • That's true Re him not being like Fittler and Johns. It seems like if you're not the sort of bloke who throws back 13 schooners at some Hotel after a game or at the Races and don't call everyone "Champ" or "mate" then you're a cocky so-and-so and think you're above everyone else.

Another thing I constantly hear him criticised for, especially Broncos fans and Qld'ers in general, is the way he took a 'dive' when tackling Sam Thaiday a couple of years back. Strangely, those same people didn't have a problem with Lockyer falling down after hardly being touched after passing the ball in the last years Finals game against the Titans and getting the Broncos a penalty.

Bottom line is, a lot of supporters of other teams are hanging out to see him fail this year. But at the same time, they would gladly trade 4 or 5 of their own team to have him in their side.
  • All the people who don't like Jarryd are just Jealous cause they know
he is an Amazing Player and he isn't on there Team

"I still think we could jag another. 8 wins could be enough, Newcastle's draw is awful. Though out of Penrith, Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne, i feel Brisbane at Suncorp is our best chance of a win until NQ in Round 23."
