Have We Improved?

Another frustrating year when every Eels supporter says 'There's always next year '. Well have we improved after saying the same thing at the end of last year?

                                  2015     2014

Points scored            448       477

Ranking (out of 16)   12th      8th

Points against           573       580

Ranking (out of 16)   13th      11th

Line breaks                90   8th

Errors                       239   9th

Completions             645 15th

Time in possession  48.3% 15th

Missed Tackles         662 12th

Not pretty reading is it! Nearly all important statistics ranked almost last particularly the last 3 important figures.

Looking at for and against most teams have improved as we have slipped in those rankings when figures are not much different from last year.

Have we improved, I doubt it! If anything we have regressed.

BA it is all up to you now to prove you are a decent coach like some on here believe you are.

  • Yes. Stats don't tell the full story. How many times did we get flogged last season vs this season? We were in nearly every game this year bar a couple, even though the stats don't show it. They turned up and gave it everything most weeks of the year with a very limited roster due to so many injuries and salary cap issues. A lot of guys who weren't in our top 17 played a lot of games (Morgan, Kelly, Pauli, Faraimo etc). You only need to look at those games we should have won (NZ, Souths, Cowboys, Sharks, Raiders). 4 were at home and we win those we are in the 8. No we didn't win them but for mine last year was far more disappointing how we finished getting flogged twice by bottom 8 sides. We only needed a few classy players and those games would have been closed out properly. Hayne or Foran would have done far better than Kelly did in 4/5 of those games.
  • Nice pick up Glenn - I haven't seen the improvement
  • Yes massive improvement in the Forwards but let down by the backs
Next year will see an even better forward pack (if Peats OK) with a massive improvement in halves and goal kicking
Backs will also be improved with an experienced FB and a more potent right side if we can sought out right centre
  • There has been no improvement. We have certainly regressed. Our loser mentality still exists, evidenced by our ability to lose games that we had won.

  • We played well in most games for at least 60mins. Hopefully additions like Foran and Scott will keep us in the game for the full 80mins.

  • Yes, we have definitely improved. BA has had a LOT of repair work to do.

Check out my blog, it starts to break down the numbers a bit more clearly: http://www.1eyedeel.com/forum/topics/by-the-numbers-parra-since-200...

    • Thanks Capt but unfortunately the red line still exceeds the black.

A stat I would like to know is how our right and left sides compare (in attack & D) and a comparison with other clubs if possible.

  • I think overall we have, because without Hayne last year we wouldn't have won a game - at least we showed we can win without him and are starting to build combinations.
Statistically we haven't improved an inch but as a team I think we have -although this won't always show up in statistics.
  • It wasn't that long ago people were saying we couldn't win without Hayne. We've proven we can do that. With all the dramas and issues with injury I think it's been an improvement. We just need to work on defence in offseason and how to close out games as well as play for the full 80
  • I believe we have improved. We are now a competitive team without Hayne, which is a huge step forward. Next step is to become a competitive team that can grind out wins consistently.
