Have forwards changed the game?

Maybe its always been this way, but this year it appears to win a premiership and / or play in a GF just get a huge pack of forwards to bash the opposition leaving a smaller amount of time for the backs to score points. Champion teams have always had a big and mobile forward pack, but there seems to be more emphasis on forwards these days.

  • This is the way rugby league has been played for 106 years. Nothing new about it.
    • True super but the eels golden sides of 80's were winning grand finals with a relatively small forward pack. Especially when compared to some of the other forwards packs running around back then.

  • FAIR comment slip.....i think we need big props this is one of our weakness along with 5/8 ,7, 3&4, 2&5 , other than this we look pretty good!!!

    • Hahahaha brilliant. I love it. I think we got the coach right this time, but he doesn't play.
    • Yep, u seem to have covered our weakness Jelly assuming Crappy Joe moves on.

  • Bulldogs were monsters and dirty bastards. Dragons too.
  • Agree with you on that point Michael, if crappy joe moves on. Nothing has changed, forwards do the hard yards and win games. The only difference is souths played as a team and went up and smashed the roosters in defence where our forwards stay back and wait to see what the other team is going to do. They need to get up in their face and bash them as a team instead of hanging back.

  • Just read BA's 2014 review on the Club Website. At least he seems to have taken some notice as he has indicated that there will be a massive emphasis on getting the boys more physically dominant, i.e. strength & power, during the pre-season.

  • The forwards haven't changed. The number of interchanges and bench players has.
