Has BA picked the strongest bench ?

Strong Starting side but concerning bench which could cost us the game & a shot at preliminary final . Bryce Cartwright could cover backline or forward injury . Jake has limited experience & been thrown in the very deep end in finals footy . I am stunned at this bench for such a massive & monumental occasion , trying to break 36 year premiership drought ! BA high stakes !

  • No he hasn't but what would he know? He's just the coach

  • I think it's an overwhelming opinion that JA shouldn't be on the bench but I'm going to play devils advocate just for a minute here

    a) our starting props are probably top 5 in the game and are extremely important to our overall performance. They also like playing big minutes, which doesn't leave a lot left for Maka and Oregan to share

    b) Marata covers all forward positions as well as centre, as do papa, matto and Lane who are interchangeable somewhat

    c) Gutho gets injured, brown to FB, JA to halves. You could argue DB could be just as dangerous at FB

    d) Moses gets injured JA covers half leaving DB to do what he is good at not trying to completely run the side

    e) a halfback should be able to cover hooker

    f) obviously everyone has their opinion whether it's Perham, Cartwright etc etc but the one position that is not covered is HB which is arguably the most important position on the field. DB is most dangerous at 6 not 7

    g) Bench positions are exactly that, bench positions. They are not going to be as good as our starters otherwise they'd probably be starting, therefore we are probably going to lose out somewhere no matter who we pick

    h) do we really know how fit Moses is?

I don't necessarily think JA is the right choice I'm just trying to add some perspective here. I just hope to god BA knows what he is doing

    Go Parra

    • JA comes on last 15 minutes last week against storm 20-0 , storm then put on 14 points , final score 22-14 🤦‍♂️

      • JA was dominant playmaker against dogs in Reserve grade finals and we only scored one try.

      • Absolutely none of that had anything to do with JA

      • mighty eels that had sweet nothing to do with him i think. Look at the forwards who were slow.....we basically allowed them two tries due to not getting off our line.

      • Did u watch the game? Storms tries had nothing to do with JA.. if the game was on the line with 15 10 or 5 mins to go and we had no injuries JA will NOT come on.. where are u guys so blinded by the facts

    • If you are going to put a half on the bench they need to have zip to come on when the forwards are tired and run rings around them. A bench half should be an impact player that brings points to the table most games they play. That is not JA. He rarely provides points and is unlikely to against top teams.

if you are going to carry a bench hooker they need to be able to run from dummy half and be a strong tackler. JA is none of that. JA should not be on the bench ever. The only case for JA in the team is if MM is out. However if that happens we will lose against a good team.

Cartwright has had good defence of late - last two games in first grade and reserve grade finals. He also brings an X factor and can create a line break or try assist from no where if required. He also is good and pushing through the line and offloading.

NBrown hits hard in defence and brings agggression and line speed. He also can pass at the line.

NB and Cartwright bring stuff to the table. JA is a passenger we cannot afford

Even Ogden is a big body to bash the opposition with for a short stint and tire them out.

      • Spot on ! Well said

      • My thoughts exactly. I would have gone with N Brown, if fit, or Cartwright.

"You will never see equality if you think indigenous rights are the solution. Inequality is increasing, not decreasing, especially since elites began to make their populations focus on token gestures like that."
