  • I'll have a go (below are just the 17 official signings):

    $300k Alvaro

    $500k Brown

    $500k Ferguson

    $250k French

    $250k Evans

    $300k Gutherson

    $200k Hoffman

    $700k Mennings

    $400k Mannah

    $400k Ma'u

    $400k Moeroa

    $700k Moses

    $700k Norman

    $600k Paulo

    $150k Salmon

    $150k Smith

    $300k Takairangi

That adds up to $6.8M, with 13 roster spots left to fill, and a need for a top 17 hooker.

Next year's cap is about $9.5M, so we should have about $2.7M to spend on those 13 players. That's just over $200k each, though since we have most of a top 17 already contracted we don't want to be paying the rest of the signings $200k each. Nearly all of them will be backups.

So it's easy enough to say all the backups should be on minimum salary, and in a perfect world they would be. But if they're on minimum salary they need to be worth minimum as well. If they're only worth $50k you don't want to be paying them double their salary just to save money. You might need to rely on these guys in an injury crisis. Do we really want to throw $72500 (the minimum for players 27-30 next year) at Piki Rogers or Eddie Aiono just because we don't want to spend $120k on a backup who is worth it? Anyway we reportedly had 10 spots to fill a few weeks ago, meaning we have three current squad members in next year's top 30 who were never announced. These would probably be from this list (with estimated salary):

    $75k Aukafolau

    $100k Leleisiuao

    $150k Mahoney

    $75k Stone

I'm guessing Aukafolau is the one unsigned for next year, meaning we have now spent a bit over $7.1M

So we have ten spots to fill and about $2.4M to spend. We've allegedly signed Lane (my guess is about $250k) and we still need another hooker. We can expect any remaining backups to average just over $100k each:

    $250k Lane

    Hooker: ??????

    23. $110k (these are just averages over the nine remaining backup slots, since you can't guarantee you'll find a player worth exactly the minimum salary for that slot)

    24. $110k

    25. $110k

    26. $110k

    27. $110k

    28. $110k

    29. $110k

    30. $110k

That leaves about $1.2M for a hooker plus however many first graders we want to buy to upgrade slots 23 to 30 in the squad.

    • Poupou whos this Menning dont know who he is what does he play forwards or backs were he from

And we need a hooker n another front row forward.or two

        • Obviously if we retayne Hayne it will chew a fair chunk out of what we have left to spend, but he is in pretty good form at the moment. I wonder what sort of offers he is getting from elsewhere, and do we want to match them?

    • Where does Hayne fit in?
    • Wtf is taka doing on that much?
    • Don't forget the $300k discount for Mannah.

    • Not much depth there, we will need to sign some players with good potential or some NRL experience for cover.

  • Paulo 700k lane 350k Ferguson 500k according to reports. That's over 1.5million for 3 players.
    • Reports are usually inflated. I think it was Bernie Gurr who came out and said the numbers thrown around for Paulo are far overblown. But I reckon Ferguson is worth $500k so that report was probably correct.
