Hammett or slash??

Some of you may remember earlier this year I was in the midst of an oasis fad (what was I thinking) and asking who was better Liam or Noel. I'm back to my faves though and after buying tickets for gunners and waiting for metallicas new album in November I wanted to pose the question as to who people thought was the better guitarist Hammett or slash?

  • Slash. Both are great but Slash is more versatile.
I saw the reconfigured Gunners twice after the breakup of the original band. They had 3 blokes playing Slash's part and broke the solos up.
    • Hmm agree to a certain extent Fong. Was not the gunners sound partly because slash had a certain style? I must admit the solo stuff has shown his repotoire but even on appetite there was still the locked in bluesy feel. The only massive Hammett like solo I recall him ripping out was garden of Eden I think? Do you think if he hadn't left gunners we may say he was a little locked in himself?
  • How long before a hippy chimes in with Jimmy.
  • Slash has more feeling and warmth, Hammett is more clinical and surgical, both great, its apples and oranges i recon.

  • Agree, Slash has roots in blues and is a lot more versatile

  • Slash, especially live, Hammett seems to be off more as he gets older. but I like Metallicas style of Music more, and therefore listen to them more often than guns and roses or other slash stuff
  • Encouraging the enthusiasm of everyone's response!! Me personally I'd have to go with Hammett. I think slash has more iconic solos but I just love Hammetts technique going to town on "one". I'll agree though that it's nowhere near as emotive as slash. Good point whoever bought that up. I suppose as. Guitarist I've always aspired to Hammetts level of proficiency
  • So no one is picking Noel Gallagher lol
    • Ouch!!
  • Hetfields right hand is amazing
