Halfbacks...

Ok, lets be realistic;

Cronk - not next year, the Storm wont release him.

JT - this wont happen, he wont be playing with anyone next year (if this was not the case he would be my preferred option).

Murray/Bruest - I don't know why we signed the later. Murray may be good enough.... in 4 years or so!

Gower - this rumour has disapated of late, probably wont happen.

Sherwin - a possibility, but we may end up with Tim Smith if Sherwin signs with the Sharks.

Orford - our best chance and a good stop-gap for 1-2 seasons while we find another.

We wont develop another great halfback for at least 4-5 seasons so our best chance is to throw plenty of coin at one. Or, buy Cooper (but I feel this is too risky consider the money on offer to him) to play 5/8 outside Mortimer after Morts has a season or two under Orford.

  • I would be using Murray if we didnt sign any of the others above with humble at 5/8 and use morts and Macguire as 9 & 14. I to think Murray will be an awesome buy for us with 3-4 years under his belt
  • If he did come great kicker to have after burty as well
  • Murray needs to be blooded over 2-3 seasons. Morts is a 5/8.
  • Thats what I've heard too...
  • Yeah I know he needs to be blooded but I think morts will go well as a utility as well
    • Morts as a utility is worth a crack abd he can cover 6, 7 & 9 from the bench (a bit like PJ did). My only concern is that he looks to be a natural half and testing him as a utility may dent his confidence and delay his development...
      • Yeah but I think he has that darting speed to get out of dummy half like KK use to do and get us good yards. Just needs to bulk up a bit, probably about another 7-10KG
        • Good point.
          He will add plenty over this off season.
          • I think was where lacked a lot this year, as when we had it in 2009 we had a lot of great 2nd and 3rd phase play that the defense had no idea how to handle
            • I'm surprised at people mentioning Mortimer as a number 9. This year it was well publicised that his lack of spark and creativity were due to the number of tackles he was required to make each game. If he is playing hooker he will be expected to make as many tackles or more.
