Gutho - Try Saving King

King Gutho may not be the best x-factor fullback such as Ponga, Tedesco, Turbo, etc, but he is one of the best defensive fullbacks in the NRL. According to fox sports he has made the most tackles to shut down possible tries. Infact he has double the number of try savers that second place has.

Clint Gutherson: 18

Daly Cherry-Evans: 9

Daine Laurie: 9

Kyle Feldt: 8

Matt Dufty: 8

Jamayne Isaako: 8

  • Well our defence does give him plenty of opportunities

    • Lol. But then wouldn't the fullbacks from the shittest of teams have Guthos' numbers.

      • Not if they can't save them like Gutho! Boom- tish

    • That's what I was thinking.

  • I note Dufty is there but papynhausen isn't. Why? Because he isn't asked to make defensive plays to save tries. I was saying earlier in the week that Dufty would be a sensation if he was playing at an elite club like the Storm.

Gutho is the best defensive fullback in the Comp hands down. Saves a lot of what look like certain tries.

  • Shows how crap our first line defence is. Hats off to gutho though.

    • We are the second best in the NRL for missed tackles. We are also third best for points conceded. But Gutherson is certainly an important part of our defence. His ability to cover both ends of the defensive line is what allows us to compress so tight. It also explains why he has so many try saves.

      • That's 100% right but I think that might change a bit with Dunster in the side - at least on his edge. Dunster seems to defend a bit more traditionally and on his heels rather than commiting right in.

        • Exactly,  I still believe most of the issues were coming from fergo. Good to see the young guys having a crack.

        • Yeah Dunster has much better lateral movement than Ferguson, with better hands. That makes him a safer wing option than Ferguson, even if he offers much less with the ball. Ferguson is a lot stronger and probably faster too. He's just unreliable.
