Eels halfback Mitchell Moses is surprised the club are yet to agree to terms with Clint Gutherson but has full confidence the skipper will remain in blue and gold.

Parramatta tabled a $650,000 per season for three years in their latest proposal, however Gutherson has set a price tag of $700,000 over four years.

It has been speculated the fullback was set to meet with Manly coach Des Hasler - rumours Gutherson himself shut down on Thursday.

Moses has faith the club are taking the right steps to secure Gutherson's future.

''That's completely up to the club (to re-sign him) but personally I am pretty surprised (about the delay),'' Moses said.

''I'm sure they are doing the right things behind closed doors.''

Moses also declared he wants to commit to Parramatta and is hoping his management can strike a deal in the near future.

''I'd love to stay. I love Parramatta and what we're doing here at the moment but I'll leave it up to my management and they'll do everything they can behind closed doors,'' he said.

The Eels are still in negotiations with coach Brad Arthur and Gutherson's decision may hinge on whether his long-time mentor keeps his position.

''It is an important thing if you want to sign for a long time you want to know who the coach is,'' Moses said.

''I'm sure Parramatta are doing the right things behind closed doors and Gutho's management to sort it out.''

Sunday will mark the first time Moses faces former halves partner Corey Norman with their divorce working wonders for both parties.

Moses' wish of taking control of his own football team has seen a resurgence in form, while Norman has flourished in a new environment and style that supports his running game.

While their relationship ended on frosty terms, Moses had nothing but praise for his former sidekick.

''He loves to have a little sledge,'' he quipped.

''He's been playing some outstanding footy. He's probably been the best five-eighth in the game this year.

''He's playing some really good footy at the Dragons and he's definitely one to watch.''

  • Get it done Eels. Who the hell are we going to get to even consider playing at the Eels when they see this crap in the media. Whatever is happening behind closed doors needs to happen before another season is derailed. I'm sick of this club rebuilding. The Leagues club is rebuilt, the Car park is rebuilt, The stadium is rebuilt. ENOUGH REBUILDING, Time ot get on with it. Your fans are pissed off big time.

  • Norman's running game??? Who wrote this rubbish. If he didn't have a kicking game he'd be making kebabs.

  • I think Moses management have learnt from how certain things played out at the Tigers. Could probably pass the message onto Ayoub.

    • Yep, heard he went through a lot of sh@t at the tigers

  • "Behind closed doors." - Read it Gutho and Ayoub, that's how you do it.

  • Does Gutho deny meeting DESSY, if this is the case then why are the media claiming they have met. Who would provide this information to the media for them to run with it.  Gutho your Mutt "Ayoub" is spreading the stories your brand image is tarnished you are greedy, don't deny what we can all read and see. You are not loyal and as the captain of this club you have brought this club down with your contract neg. I for one loved what you offered when you tried your heart out. But just as easily you won me you have now lost me. You are not loyal, faithful to your employer, Trust worthy of being the club captain, responsible in managing your affairs offline, mature enough to be captain of our club, or lacking the class to make a simple decision without putting the noose around our club about money and the coach being signed up again.

Once you sell out, you lose all credibility you have no excuses. Good Luck thanks for 2 years of Service 3rd year was sitting on the pine with your dodgy knees.

  • I hope we keep Gutherson i will hand in my membership if we dont
