Gus delusion, it is hilarious. Non Parra blog

This is an obvious non-parra blog but i want you all to share in my laughing. Gus was on 100% footy and mentioned that he saw this type of season coming before even getting Ciraldo, despite having Burton, TPJ and JAC at the club and they were slightly improving with Potter, he expected that they would go backwards signing Reed Mahoney and Ryan Sutton, Kikau been out for most of the year. Right, then he said he advised Ciraldo to come in 2024 not 2023 due to the year they would have, Ciraldo said he would come in for the fight. Sorry but the way Ciraldo and Mahoney spoke in their presser does not show a squad expecting a season like this, Mahoney coming into CommBank in Round 7 cocky and wanting to prove a point does not show a player who knew they were in for a hard season.

He then mentions they still have 500k left in their cap for this season, which i believe they are forced to spend or they are fined due to the NRL 10% cap rule, but where will they spend that 500k unless Sexton is taking up 400k of that. He relied on juniors and nobodies to make up the numbers for their big name players to make a world class 13 as oppose to a well balanced 30 man squad and it's failed miserably. Yet everyone just sits and listens to him like he is a god, nobody calls him out on this crap. I am telling you now if they are sitting out of the 8 come next year, same team but with Crichton, still no no.7, Gould will either walk or tap Ciraldo on shoulder and put him to blame for what has happened.

It is pathetic what he has done, he has made it worse, making these signings for 4-5 years on big money so it will continue this philosphy of their depth being sacrificed for cap space. Nobody calls him out it and it is pathetic. But at same time hilarious as Reed bought in and now it is backfiring and he is stuck.

  • I actually watched it and it is very different to the way you are portraying it. Gus did tell everyone who wound listen that it would be a rough season, maybe not as rough as it's turning out, but rough nevertheless. He did warn Ciraldo that taherecwoujd be dark days before it got better, I remember him saying so, both before and after CC committed. Gus was happy for Mick Potter to continue in an interim capacity for this year, but CC wanted to cone immediately.

Gus isn't everyone's cup of tea, I get it, but you ignore his take on the game at your own risk.

      • However the difference is Sheens has a tougher job trying to attract players. Gould has managed to get two very good players and got another next year. Wests depth with their juniors will be better in 5 years time, i think Sheens and Marshall may do well there, but Gould knew he could not rely on juniors at Canterbury.

    • No denying he knows footy, i am simply saying he doesn't get everything right. When he gets it wrong though he rarely admits to it. They have gone backwards simple as that.

I do remember the talk of Potter staying for 2023, but it was reported due to Penrith wanting him to see out his deal in 2023. Not saying you are wrong Brett, hell if they missed the 8 i wouldn't call it a bad year for Canterbury as it is an improvement but so it can count as a rough year if you miss the finals but they have done worse than last year and i believe he deserves some of the blame.

      • Of course he doesn't get everything right, but if perfection is your pass mark then no one would succeed.

        • Who said perfection was? I am simply talking about Canterbury nothing else.

  • All I ever hear is excuses from the dogs. In saying that I like gus a lot

  • At the end of the day Gus fired Cleary over a power dispute  , then hired Cleary back inwhich Cleary demanded full control over the team, then they fucked Gus off , and then Penrith found success. Make of that what you will.   But it doesn't point towards Gus being anything more than a hinderence to their club.

Lasted 5 minutes at the Dragons , ditto The Warriors ( COVID affected I get ) .

    • Well St. George only asked him to do a review on the club and coach. His response was in favour of McGregor and they sacked him anyway, but Gould was never actually affiliated with St. George Illawarra.

The Warriors actually would have been great for him to set up pathways due to their vast juniors. I think they have benefit somewhat from his short time there as their juniors coming through are the best the club has seen in a decade.

But he has stuffed up Canterbury, he could make it better but at the moment i feel it is not looking good. He is best at a club with juniors to pick from or a rich junior area. Hell i think he would do wonders with us too if we ever needed him with our backyard.

      • He set up pathways and is still working with warriors with that stuff. Hence rhem joining jersey Flegg, Matt's next year plus cup this year

    • The Panthers success was built on what Gus did in their dark days. Forget about on field success, the Panthers would've gone bankrupt without Gus and his contacts. They were days away from going into administration, the only reason they survived is because Gus got on the blower to James Packer to ask for help to save a club that Packer couldn't give two shits about. JP cut him a cheque for $10m on the spot, the Panthers cashed it 36 hours before they legally had to call in the administrators. That's when the Panthers asked Gus to do a full review of their football department. He advised them of what they needed to do to achieve sustainable success. They then tasked Gus to oversee their rebuild.
The Dragons asked him to do a review but restricted the parameters to the point of any such review being pointless. It would've been a Clayton's review, and unsurprisingly, Gus wouldn't put his name to a half arsed report.
The Dogs aren't any worse off than the Panthers were at the same time in their rebuild.
