Grothe To Re-sign?

According to the Sydney Morning Herald:

Grothe is one of several Parramatta stars who remain uncontracted for next season. The 30-year-old said he hoped to stay with the Eels.

''My manager, Andrew Purcell, has talked to Parra,'' he said. ''I'm keen to stay, and they've said they're interested in keeping me. If it doesn't work out I guess I'll have to find another club, but whatever happens I reckon I've got another three good years in me. The knee injury is just one of those minor things - I'm feeling really good overall, and enjoying my footy.''

To have Eric Grothe as an Eel for another 3 years would be massive. Everyone is talking about how he's going overseas and all sorts of crap, but if he's keen to stay with Parra, I for one would be stoked.

If he's keen to stay and we're keen to keep him, all that needs to be worked out is a dollar figure.

The whole article can be read here, it also details his operation tomorrow.

  • I would be keeping Grothe fo sho.

He has been an absolute beast this year on one leg. I put him in the category of Vatuvei and that brick shitehouse for the tigers whose name I can't remember.

It is very important to have at least one big hit up merchant in the backs in the modern game and to be honest no one else at parramatta really fits that bill.

Tahu is probably big enough but his hit ups and dummy half runs this year have been a little dissapointing to be perfectly honest.
    • Teriyaki...?
  • Resign means pretty much the opposite to re-sign. I hope he re-signs.
    • Shit. Thanks for that mate, sorted.
  • That's it Teriyaki.

    But he is no chicken!!
    • I think it's Tuiaki...

      Teriyaki's funnier but :P
  • Basically, I think it comes downs to we'll keep Inu or Grothe. As much as its a nice situation to have this year, you can't be paying $150k+ for players outside your 17.
    • If we sign either of them they won't be getting 150k it'll more be in the vicinity of 100k.
  • Grothe's one of those guys who looks like he'll stay good well into his 30s, and I reckon we'd be mad to let him go without a decent offer.
He's a canny sort of winger and, as has been mentioned on this site a lot, is hungry for the ugly yards off his own line.
  • Well if that is the case I would probably hold on to Grothe 1 eyed what about you?

Grothe brings something a bit different to our other backs and it is a commodity that is not too easy to find.

I mean lets face it, injuries and defensive lapeses aside, he is a freak of an athlete.
