As previously reported on 1Eyed Eel, Grothe left training on Thursday after words were understood to have been exchanged with coach Daniel Anderson.
Grothe was not at the game on Friday with injury cited as the reason, but our information remains that there were deeper reasons for his omission from the side.
While details of what exactly happened remains sketchy, it has emerged he may have been dropped from the NRL side and this might have been been part of the disagreement.

Disagreements happen all the time in the workplace. You hope people are professional enough to move on from them, re-establish a professional relationship and then get the job done.
It will be an interesting team sheet this afternoon. I would expect Grothe will be named, if for no other reason that it means questions won't be asked.
Football is a business these days, as much as entertainment. Hopefully the Eels can put all current differences to one side and play together as a unit for the rest of the year.
It is tough when one of your work colleagues leaves to go to one of your competitors, and rugby league players are forced to do this regulalrly to due to obvious reasons. A winning club is generally a happy club. A good front office generally leads to a happy football club, which, more often than not, is a winning club. We were lauding Osborne and Anderson last year - let's not forget so hastily.
The fact that two ordinary team performances have followed mid season departure announcements is not surprising.
Our ability to bounce back from this adversity is the test for Coach Anderson and CEO Osborne now - we'll need to give them the rest of the season though before making a judgement (remember 2009) - two good/bad weeks does not a season make.
The gun player - Fowler and coach Ferguson had a massive, very public, lovers spat half way through last season and Fowler refused to play one week.
For the rest of the season Fowler and Ferguson went on as though it didn't happen
Fury won some and lost some but the team never skipped a beat in playing to the best of their ability.

Mackay District RL 2 weeks ago Souths scraped home over Norths 104 - 10.
Yep ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR POINTS.
Geez the Parra fans would become a lynch mob with that sort of drubbing.
Norths improved this week and only lost by about 30 something points.
Norths play to the maximum of their ability and keep coming back expecting to win and they are not a first grade NRL side like Parra.
Go figure.
