The selection of former Parramatta international Eric Grothe Jr on the Eels football club's board was expected to be questioned with suggestions he was never eligible to run for the post.
Sources said a list of the football clubs financial members – being “financial” is a requirement to run for the board - which was provided to all candidates involved in the election does not contain Grothe Jr's name.
The 32-year-old, who was the “face” for the Parra 4 Ever ticket, was proactive in the campaign. He even changed his Twitter account name from Shinobi – after his rock band – to Parra 4 Ever and he pumped out messages which included the need for the Eels to invest more heavily in the juniors.
If it is proven he was not entitled to run an embarrassing situation was expected to be compounded as Fairfax Media understands at least one unsuccessful candidate was investigating whether it meant the elections needed to be staged again.
Throughout the campaign Grothe said he wanted to stand alongside his famous father Eric, the blockbusting winger of the 1980s, on the board because he wanted to give something back to the Eels. His desire to become involved was apparently piqued when he attended Nathan Hindmarsh's farewell game.
He was considered a boon for the Parra 4 Ever ticket because apart from his being a popular player he also enjoyed a vast following on the social media network.

1 eyed it is not Parra 4 Ever Ticket, it is 3P, 3P is Parra 4 Ever, the same faces differen't name, the same failures & incompetence but differen't name. This rubbish new name Parra 4 Ever to cover up all the incompetence of the last few years of 3P which resulted in the wooden spoon , the ultimate insult to this ounce proud club ! I eyed i suggest if there is re election , my understanding the recent football club elections, 3P had 300 members vote for them out of 400 members who showed up, these 300 members are relatives and friends of 3P, 1 eyed I suggest if there is re election, you get 500 members minimum to show up on election day and vote Parra first, then we can kick 3P out of this club which 3P have totally destroyed the NRL eels !

If this is true, it does'nt reflect well on the competence of any of the candidates in the election, Parra4ever, 3P, ParraFirst, Independents or whoever.
Are you saying in terms of the fact that we all should have checked each other of AI? I went to the actual drawing of ballots which was held directly after nominations closed. The returning officer said that all of those nominated were being balloted subject to a check of their eligibility. That's a pretty basic process, that surely you can trust of the returning officer. This appears to be have been leaked by a disgruntled party from within the 3P camp because quite obviously all the candidates weren't aware of it.
At this stage, I'm told Bob Bentley is conducting the investigation and at this stage we've been told that something like Eric Grothe Snr is a lifetime member, but has also paid up a financial member and therefore his financial membership is being attributed to his son. However, as many people on this site would know who bought multiple memberships under the one name - unless you had your name on those memberships/season tickets, you weren't allowed to vote.
could the elections be staged again?
Its almost funny and then Its our club and it becomes sad.
Who's job is it to check the eligibility of candidates is their a paid employee who should vet the applications before the vote or is it up to the applicant to follow the rules.
I really don't understand stuff like this who pays for the expenses of the elections? If so and it has to be re run can who ever has to pay hit Eric Grothe Jnr with a lawsuit for the cost of the re run.
