Grothe admits he might move after big one

ERIC GROTHE has confirmed next weekend's grand final could be his last game for Parramatta. Grothe is contracted to the Eels next season but the club has given him permission to explore opportunities elsewhere. The Eels are under salary cap pressure following the recruitment of NSW prop Justin Poore, Roosters forward Shane Shackleton and Waratahs back Timana Tahu for 2010. Officials are happy to retain Grothe but won't begrudge him the chance to sign a lucrative deal elsewhere. ''I've got another year at Parra but they've given me permission [to leave] if I find a three-year deal somewhere overseas,'' Grothe told The Sun-Herald. ''But I haven't heard anything back from anyone. ''They were talking about Japan rugby and Hull FC but I haven't got offers from either of them. If I do, I'll sit down and have a think about it. I've got a couple of properties to take care of, I need to start thinking about the future.'' FULL STORY: http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/lhqnews/grothe-could-exit-eels/2009/09/26/1253813653045.html

  • tahu will have to be our new hit up man
  • we dont need him
    and it is good
cause we can spare up some money for kingston
    • We'll miss him so much more than you think.
  • It will be sad to see him go he has been without a doubt in career best form!!!

    Good Luck Guru!!!
  • We're gonna miss hit ups bigtime. PLEASE DON'T GO.
  • if you watched fox sports tactics even they commented on that most of the tries scored against the Eels this year have been conceded on grothe's side. However in saying this he has done some great things for us and scored some great tries himself. I will miss him but if he goes then we can keep some others players that are important to our future....
  • In a way that might be good so we can play Inu on the Wing and Tahu next to him in the Center's
  • Can't agree with most of the sentiments here. I really don"t think many of you realise just how much we'll miss a big blockbusting winger like the guru... You usually don't miss something until it's gone. I hope Eric stays.
    • i agree Goyoueels. I think it shows that some people dont understand that a good footballer is not just about flash. Players cannot be brilliant in all areas, and everyone knows that he has some defensive deficiencies, however not everyone can be a brilliant defender. Some of the best players to play the game have had problems with defence during their careers.
What some people apparently dont see is the power and attacking intimidation he brings to our team. You take a look at when Parramatta is under the pump, deep in our half, Eric is always one of the first to put his hand up to cart it up, and the quality of his metres cannot be underestimated.
I believe he changed the course of the game when we played the Titans. We defended set after set in the second half, when Eric came up with a 30+ metre run. it gave us a chance to regather and give our forwards a breather. id love for him to stay.
  • Given the year that Eric has had, and given how important he has been to our go forward this year, I don't really understand why we would prioritise other signings over him. I'm sure I don't understand the intracacies of our salary structure, or DA's vision for the side, but I have to say that I would rather Eric than Tahu, particularly with the balance of the side and Tahu's continuous injury problems in mind. Maybe this decision was made earier in the year and therefore this is a case of hindsight being 20/20!
