Grand finals

Interesting stat I came across in the past 20 years 15 of them have consisted of either roosters or storm grand finals, surely questions have to be asked about the salary cap and a better system in place where 2 teams have an advantage on a system which is suppose to make the competition even.

  • The NRL must have the storm in the 4 every year or people in Victoria will not follow the storm so they tell the ref to cheat let them win or you will be looking for a job remember when we play the storm in a grand final the NRL knew they were over the cap but didnt say nothing to after the grand final n when we played storm in a major and the ref cheat us so storm make the grand final now they let billy off

The Roosters NRL just love them they can cheat the cap

  • The NRL needs Melbourne to do well and along with the other expansion teams they want them to do better than the original and more established teams e.g. Sydney teams.

The NRL would not admit it but they would hate it if one year Souths won, next year Easts, then Canterbury, then Penrith etc. When teams like NQ, Melbourne, Gold Coast are doing well, it keeps those fans and regions interested.

As I have said numerous times before, It will be interesting to see the fate of Melbourne after they have a lean period or miss the finals once all their players retire e.g slater, smith.

In the 20 years they have been in the league, they have missed the finals, 3 times. And made all those grand finals, but their crowds are still pretty lousy, and for someone who has been to Melbourne a few times, nobody talks about them or mentions them down there, it's like they don't exist.
    • You are right about support in Melbourne. All they care about is AFL, and that is never going to change. If the NRL were serious about growing the game they would sure up the base in Sydney first. But no, they are milking Sydney and in the meantime watching local teams struggle. The NRL is a joke. Bring back NSWRL. At least they knew what they were doing.
      • Agree Longfin the Rugby League games and competition was far better when there were only Sydney based teams.

        • No it wasn't Monto, that's the most stupid statement you've ever made, and that's saying a lot.

    • The last time I was in Melbourne was July 2016, at that stage Melbourne were first on the table and on the way to another minor premiership. I was there for a week and a half, not one mention of them.

Nothing in the paper, nothing on the news, Channel 9 didn't even show the Friday night game or the Sunday game. It was just AFL and nothing else.
    • During the STORM’s salary cap scandal, the NRL gave them an unfair advantage over the rest of the competition (keep the test spine you created through cheating). At the time, Melbourne Storm was owned by News Ltd. And who owns the NRL? - it just so happens the NRL is jointly owned by the ARL board and News Ltd. The NRL in so many ways is ruining this great game of ours.
      • News Ltd has no ownership stake in the NRL anymore, hasn’t since the inception of the commission, it’s only ownership now is its 67% stake in the Broncos.

  • I'd say roosters are worse and actually far more obvious when it comes to cheating the cap.

At least with the storm you could argue a lot of their stars over the years actually began in Melbourne. That doesn't mean they didn't cheat to keep them but it's not nearly as bad as a team like the roosters already being a top 4 side and managing to replace their failed NSW halfback with the best halfback in Qld halfback Cronk and replacing their aging fullback with the nsw fullback in Tedesco. I mean common....
    • I actually reckon they have made a mistake with Crichton , he was on fire but hes been ordinary since signing, average plodder.
