Government & Revenue Raising

Just heard the NSW government is installing another 300 speed cameras around NSW.It's really getting to the ridiculous stage now, where everyone is at potential risk of losing their licences. As a full time professional driver, it's bloody tough concentrating on you job or where you have to go without having to continually look down at your speedo or look out for police traps and the ever more frequent Ford Territory waiting to slug another driver.I'm not sure I'm the only one pissed at this blatant grab for cash - FFS enough is enough, it's not even a right or left thing so I can't even blame a particular side of politics. It needs to stop but when government is so addicted to the revenue how do the people stop this lunacy?

  • God that's a bit much ..... it would be so hard for ppl on the road all day to concentrate . I went down to reptile park today with friends and bypassed six speed cam cops just from newie exit . Thought to myself if I wasn't concentrating well there's my licence in one day ! Don't know how u do it.
    • Carlo I tell you it's freaking hard driving around all day without getting done - in fact I'll say it's damn near impossible no matter how careful you are. There are so many distractions and so many traps it's easy to get done. Notice the cops are always hiding in places where the car normally speeds up ie bottom of a hill etc. if that's not revenue raising or entrapment what is?
I've only got 3 points left and if I lose these babies I'll probably lose the job too, it's just farked.
  • No as I said in my blog, it's both sides so I can't even blame left or right.
They are both addicted to the revenue and will do whatever it takes to drag in more dollars.
NSW is in budget surplus so why the gouge? It's farked..
  • I've been pierced off about this blatant grab for cash for years.
Using the Pacific Highway regularly, I see Police cars on very good stretches of road, of which there are few but more than there used to be. Always where there are overtaking lanes and the like whilst the Police tell the public that it is for our 'safety?'
If they are doing it for our safety, why aren't they policing the black spots? There are still many on the Pacific.
It's raw, obvious and ridiculous penny pinching.
  • Just don't speed. The road toll is higher than it has been for years.
    • Very good point LE.

      Yeh Frank, just don't speed.

      You can read can't you?

      Are you addict to speed?

    • It's to do with over congestion and poor quality roads Longfin . Cars are safer than they've ever been . I could drive at 160kmph on the freeway today quite comfortably and safely in modern cars so I believe speed is only a small part of the real issue .
    • I think that was John Singleton Wizard.

    • How can you use cruise control mate when you can drive 3km and encounter 4 difffernt speed limits . And that's on the fuckking motorways . Its not a safety thing for the cops anymore it's pure revenue raising to keep the country afloat. More milking of the taxpayer out there trying to earn a quid .

Before the " drive the speed and you don't have to worry" brigade jump on board , I'm gunna say unless you have a job that involves more than 32 hours behind the wheel in the metropolitan area a week , your comment is irrelevant .

You can go from a 70 to a 60 to a 100 then to a 40 area in a matter of minutes and also have to keep an eye out for dickheads on pushbikes , kids popping out from behind cars , dumbfucks who can't drive , 457 visa holders in semi trailers swerving all over the shop and out pops some dicckhead with his radar to get you for doing 43 in a 40 zone .

Oh and have to ensure you not pass some old queer in his Lycra in less than 3 metres because he's on Canterbury Rd on his fucking Huffy or you'll cop a fine for that too .

        • Brissy , thats under the assumption that you're driving along with the only thing on your mind is pressing your + and - ( which I use religiously also ) amd watching speed limits , however try driving 5 days a week 8 hours a day in Sydney and it's surrounding suburbs mate and see how you go . Ive driven in almost every state in this country and NSW and particularly Sydney is hands down in another world compared to the rest . Our roads are overpopulated by about 300% . I could only imagine what it'd be like for a poor truck driver .

I have not been booked for speeding in about 5 or so years maybe longer , but I'm 100% on Franks side here that in NSW they're hell bent on catching the poor souls that slip up once or twice through a split second of lapsed concentration . If they were only interested in catching the habitual speeders they wouldn't need all, these added revenue raisers to catch them .
