So Phil Gould has come out and said no offer has been made of yet to Mahoney, instead they hope to hold more conversations with him in the future. This could mean Mahoney is going back to Parramatta and see if they are to up their deal or will Parramatta wait until Canterbury give an actual offer. It is hard to believe Canterbury and Mahoney did not discuss at least some terms such as length and minimum amount they would like.
If it is the case it could give Parramatta more time with Mahoney coming back talking, going to Canterbury second time getting an actual offer and going back to Eels again and seeing what they match. The prices being suggested is 200K apart, Parramatta could keep Mahoney in negotiations if they up their offer to say 550K then Mahoney may see some sort of haggling happen to strike a deal. Or Parramatta could stand their ground at 450K then Mahoney will go back to Canterbury and see what they offer.
Though one thing is for sure Mahoney will not sign with Canterbury until Parramatta counter offer what he has been given, it is in Parramatta's hands it is up to them how important they see Mahoney, his preference is to stay so i believe he will give the club every chance to secure a deal.

Sad to see Marata go, but by the sounds on him we had something competetive on the table for him to at least contemplate staying over the 650k the warriors offered him.
Hopefully that takes the pressure off the cap and they can up the ante for Reed. He needs to be the next signature
Marata derserves it, he got an offer that is too much but good on him for getting it, he is not worth 625K a year right now. Though with Niukore there now and Tohu Harris, i'd be enquiring to Josh Curran about returning home to AUS. He is an Eels junior.
Wow 😯, imagine that, a player manager tying to get a bigger contract for his player and therefore a larger 20%. Who would of thunk it? 💭
Interesting. Sounds like Ayoub needs to get busy and get some actual offers otherwise all of this is pure hot air. Parra shouldn't make an offer unless Reed is agreeable to sign it immediately.
Well i think it will be a "what is your worst case scenario?" to Reed. Offer 520K and work your way up, i think if you offer close to 550K he will stay in negotiations and meet in the middle, if they low ball him it will be going back to Canterbury.
Parramatta i do not think are too phased either way but it is so much easier keeping him in the building when he comes back to talk money.
I'm sure the truth is somewhere in between here. I find it hard to believe that Reed had dinner with Gus and money wasn't discussed. I'm sure Gus gave Reed a rough idea if the kind of deal they could potentially offer. The key phrase Gus used was "they want to find out if Reed was serious about potentially wanting to become a Bulldog". I doubt the Dogs will offer anything on paper if they get an inkling that Reed is just using them as leverage to get a better deal out of Parramatta. Gus is no ones fool, this was a scouting mission by the Dogs.
Which leads to the theory it was an Ayoub ploy to get Parramatta's attention on upping their deal. And i will irriterate Parramatta will be unfazed and will offer according to their cap, the market value and their value.
At the moment it seems the market values Mahoney at 600K, Brisbane teams no more than 500, Canterbury 600-650 so rounded to roughly 600K, If parramatta are at 450K could 550K or a bit more with incentives like if he make Origin be enough? possibly, even a sweetner of upping this year by another 50K even, future captain talk? who knows but Parramatta are in a comfortable spot, hope it does not get out of hand.
Well if this article is true Canterbury = $0 so far. Why would we bid against ourselves? It could lead to a Mexican stand off with neither the Eels or the Dogs willing to move first.
Time to bring Reed in for a chat without his manager. Let him know the Eels are keen to get him signed up and ask him to come back with the number that he's ok with.
This reported $650k x 4 years from the Dogs is apparently not real so why bid against that?
The only way Reed gets more is if he makes it clear he's prepared to leave to get the deal he wants. If Gus thinks he's being played, he's not going to make a formal offer. If they don't make a formal offer, we aren't going to move on our current offer, at least not by much.
Ball is Reeds court here.
Completely agree.
Yet the media were absolutely adamant that the Dogs offered $650k x 4 years. "Dogs on the Verge of signing Eel". "Parra have been dealt a massive blow". "The Eels exodus looks set to continue".
The media knows jack sh1t.
