Golden Boot is Back

If this season has show us one thing, it's that a bit of tough love never hurt anyone. At various stages, throughout this season Daniel Anderson hasn't been afraid of making the hard decisions. Like dropping Kris Inu. Or Ben Smith. Or like taking the kicking duties of Luke Burt. Interviewed after the match, Burt was clearly peeved he'd been sacked as kicker and said he wanted the job back. Is it any coincidence that his kicking has suddenly gone to another level, once he realised the threat was there that he'd be replaced? When he's kicking well, there is only one better kicker in the game. Burty can pot them from anywhere, but just as importantly he can land them under pressure. As the Eels go into finals territory having an 80% plus goal kicker is going to be of enormous worth. You don't win finals matches like 30 points, it's two points here and there that can make the difference.

  • DA has been a great thing for the Eels, I also love that he is a Parra fan from childhood so he has passion for the club and it shows. He has done a great job for some of our players that started to rest on their reps, Burt is playing as good as ever and Ben Smith is becoming one of the better bench players in the comp
  • A good kick in the ass doesn't hurt anyone.
  • Souths use Luke and Sandow
  • Darryl Halligan was once asked a few years ago who he would choose to take a kick if his life depended on it going over, and surprisingly he picked Luke Burt. It all comes down to confidence I reckon. The whole team lacked confidence early in the year, and Burt kicked poorly. The last few weeks he has been playing with much more confidence, and it has showed in his goal kicking.

I believe the Eels need to change the way they do things. Everywhere from identifying and developing juniors through to the running of the NRL squad. There is nothing I hate more than seeing Eels juniors succeeding at other clubs in positions our…
