glory days

anyone watching nrl glory days on foxtel the past couple of days would have seen a lot of our past greats.sterlo cronin price kenny grothe ella
if you were to young to see these players play well just imagine half the aust test team playing for your club now. i am old enough to remember these guys playing 21:s seeing their 1st grade debuts not even dreaming they would become eels legends. but i must say watching these eels games the last few days you would be excused for thinking mick cronin couldn:t kick for shit.
trust me he could.

  • I love watching it but really you can't compare footy in that era to now. In a lot of ways they were more skilful back then, even the forwards could ball play, Also the game was tougher in terms of illegal hits and general roughness. But physically other than the top athletes such as Grothe and Kenny, they were no where near as good. The forwards were big but generally slow. Also the defensive lines were much less well drilled. Different game really.
    • Agreed, totally different game. Watching Sterlo on numerous occasions hold a pass on the line and deliver a ball to a slow forward standing still and scores a try was a little disturbing but those were the days.

Sterlo was a generation ahead of his time.

    • What about the knee to the head he copped from Craig young in the first tackle on parramatta stadium. You'd be banned for life these days.
  • no mate i didnt forget cronin came from the country and pricey from union i also didnt mention first saw sterlo playing for fairfield patrician brothers where parramatta had enrolled him . just a roundabout way of saying i was lucky enough to see most come through the eels system. why criticise? dont end up like that f**wit horo movie who i thought had ran out of Lol:s

  • see your back shit for brains Lol Lol Lol Lol Lol

    • Aww cmon Nudger that was funny. Learn to laugh you sad Kent
  • Very first post with your latest account and no surprise to see you immediately throwing in a cheap shot to give your minute ego a bit of a pump, 99% of your time here is spent doing exactly that, wheres your hardman Bricktop account gone 'champ'?

  • Nudge rise above this bloke, you are way too good a man to let a clown like Horo/bricktop under your skin, water off a ducks back and dont forget, as long as he is chasing you around, you are under his skin, youve got the upper hand not him, water off a ducks back nudge.

  • Sterling, Kenny, Ella etc made average players good players. Like what happens down at Melbourne now. Our forwards in the 1986 GF punched well above their weight against the big name dogs pack.
