Gasnier

Heard a wisper from a gasnier rello that Mark will be back in red and white next year. Rugby is not his game and the big money he thought he would get is no longer on offer from his french club as he has not proven his worth. Also wants to play under a better coach.

  • I am a fan of both League and Union and I get sick of League fans always complaining about Union and how League is a better sport. The truth is you cant compare the sports just because they use a similar shaped ball. What each sport requires of a player is completely different. League players who get used to playing League style footy over their whole life, do not understand what is required of them when they play Union. You cant approach a Union match like you do a League match and this is supported by the failure of almost every League player who makes the transition to Union bar Lote Tuquiri. At the end of the day it is the NRL's fault if they are unable to produce a system which would enable to keep their stars from changing codes. An athlete only has a limited amount of years in which they can make money from their talent and at the moment Rugby Union provides them with more money for life after football.
    • yeah, but union is gay :)
    • also ryan cross has actually been better at union, along with berrick barnes and even dell was very effective in union
      • Ryan Cross is going good now that he's been playing for a couple of years and Berrick Barnes played Union as a schoolboy and was in the Queensland schoolboy side a couple of times. As for the big Dell, well he was actually really bad at Union it was just that at the time there was a lack of quality depth at the time. He was one of the worst defenders of international rugby.
      • ryan cross originally came from union b4 league, Overated in league, ok in union
  • good news, gotta love gazz
  • I never really understood why globally Union is bigger than Rugby league. as a spectator sport, I find Union hard to watch and hard to enjoy. Union lacks structure and makes it a messy specticle where League has far more structure and organisation making it a far better game to watch and also to play. Having a tackle count makes League so much better to watch. It allows better set plays as the players don't have to play hot potato or are forced to kick the ball so they aren't caught with it.

I'd like to see Union introduce a tackle count, allow maybe 3 tackles then on the last have the keep the ball alive at all costs or kick it out tactics that they have always had. It would provide better "running Rugby" which is far more watchable (although still not as watchable as league).
  • Union is a terrible game,id rather get herpes of the buttcrack than sit through a game of that rubbish. In response to puggers post about it being the Nrl's fault they dont generate enough cash this may be so but the Union boys save plenty of cash by having a terrible junior develpement program and a non existent grade competiion. This enables them to cherry pick players and pay them overs while leagues governing bodies have to support huge junior nursery's and strong grade comps in all major cities and towns in eastern NSW and QLD.In addition to this the NRL has to prop up a 16 team comp where as Union has only the four super 14 clubs so the cost to there governing bodys would be minimal in comparison.

  • I'm not trying to say that Union is better than League because I do like League better than Union. What I am trying to say is that I get sick of people trying to prove that League is better than Union or that Union is better than League. It just goes on and on.
