Game review

We played well against an understrength rabbitohs side and a f*#king useless pair of referees.

Players assessment:

Moses - strong but still trying the miracle play to often. We really need a second choice kicking option especially for long kicks.

Mau- apart from the soft try let in he had a very solid game. Very aggressive and what eels defence needed.

Paulo - huge improvement. Ran hard. Seems to play better with less minutes.

Kane evans- surprisingly impressed with his effort. He made good post contact meters.

Stone - the effort was there but BA really doesn't know how to utilise him. He should have come on in hooker and replaced mahoney. To use him as a forward is a waste. He looked a bit lost in attack.

Gower- outstanding. This guy gets better with age. Great in attack.

Smith - Smith is solid in defence but really offers very little in attack. It was very obvious when we went down the left side attack he looked lost with the ball. Not a half. Might be solid as a utility of the bench.

Mahoney - solid effort from him but struggles in online defence. Not sure if this is due to being tired or just being to small to effect the tackle.

Hoffman - huge effort. This guy has been very solid since coming in. Can't see taka coming back in while Hoffman is fit.

We won this game through the forwards. Extremely frustrating that we can dominate one of the best forward packs one week and get flogged by a piss poor panthers the week before.

All in all a wins a win.

  • Agreed regarding Stone in attack, almost.like he was a clone of Joseph Paulo and how he used to stifle/slowdown our attack haha.

  • Some sage comments there. Agree with most bar Smith not being good in attack. His greatest attribute is his running game, he is a deceptively strong ball carrier.  He struggles at 5/8 at times, granted. I think that is because he is not a structured player and he very much plays second fiddle to Moses, so doesn't get many oppertunities.

  • Anyone else think that the game shifted in our way once Gower came on. He has been our best player the last few weeks with nice footwork near the line and some second phase play

    • I do rate Gower.

    • yes but he probably is due for a rest

      • Coyote You are not wily if you want to rest our best players.

        • Gower is great and one of the smartest players we have

But he is getting on and can’t keep this up week in week out. We need to rest him before a bad game not after

  • We won this game because we are a great attacking side. Our forwards didn’t get worked by smart rep players so they had the energy to lay the platform that all half backs need to shine.

Their big name players weren’t there testing our defence. Their tries came quite softly straight up the middle, which figures because the only marquee players they had on the field were their forwards.

Our defence still sucks. Hate to say it but If cook and gagai were there they’d have flogged us. Our defence would have been worked harder, and our forwards once tired would have been opened up.

But still, it’s good for the teams confidence and the forward pack did well to semi- contain the Burgess brothers

    • Ross, Was Reynolds not playing? Some fans are never happy. Our forwards defence was great and never allowed the Burgess brothers to get going.  The bunnies had more possesion and received more penalties and yet were only able to score two tries. Not bad for a defence that you reckon Sucks. We are also not a great attacking side until we start having a free flowing game and bring our wingers into the game more. Where are our sweeping backline movements?

      • Keith i saw you stumble onto the park tonight, half cut, $5 goon and dribble spilt down your shirt, how embarrassing for you.

"That's my concern too.
A few wins and suddenly all is well according to the board and then they extend BA for a few more years.
Rinse repeat and the problem will continue with no end in sight."
