Game plan

It seems that the last few games we have been dominant in defense whilst Mitch and Corey have controlled the game with thier long and short kicking, they have played a perfectly patient controlled and virtually error free game and whilst we have won the majority of our games this year it seems that things have only really fallen into place since our new halves partnership started to gel .Is this purely a result of Moses being so good or is it only now that BA has the combinations that can execute his game plans precisely how he needs it depending upon the team we play? In 2009 Bellamy completely nullified the seemingly unstoppable Hayne in the GF, could BA with his inside knowledge of the Storm spine having assisted in Melbourne come up with a game plan to stop them? Or am I giving him far too much credit for our recent form?

  • Mmmmm we will see
  • Eggy i think its due to the fwds all putting in good efforts; allowing the halves to play well. Our % in completed sets have been v good in the last few wks too.
  • Well, the proof is in the pudding I think EM.

THe job BA did on Broncos has made people more interested in BA's coaching style, even though we seemed to get it wrong for the 15 mins of the game.

I suppose the test is when we play Melbourne again. I think BA has the nouse to do it. Have we got the cattle? yes, I think we have.

I think BA is still learning his trade at First Grade level, however, I believe he has moved from the bush coach to an NRL coach last year and I believe he will become a great FG coach cause he had to build his own roster from the ground up, and not with the leg up that some the coaches have in the NRL regarding rosters and their salary sombreros.

  • Planning and executing are two different things. It's hard to ever tip against Melbourne.
  • What has happened in the last two weeks is that they have played with discipline. Stopped trying to score off every set and as a result have minimsed the errors.

Also we have Terepo and Vave back from injury and to further strengthen our forwards BA has gone with 4 forwards on the bench at the expense of the utility. This has led to our forwards being far more dominant throughout the game

All this on top of our halves having spent time together and are performing as a unit as opposed to two halves

    • I think the utility needs to cone back especially as smith covers the whole spine what if beven goes down again?
  • So a few have attributed our rise to hard work and commitment rather than Coaching, I have got to ask , many believe that Bellamy is the best coach in the comp when he has been lucky enough to coach a team with an amazing spine and then some , plus an unlimited salary cap and all he has managed legitimately (even that is debatable)is one premiership, so what makes him so revered? is it that he gets the best out of nufties and has beens or are they just made to look better or they play better because of the calabre of players they are surrounded by, why is Bellamy any better than any of the other coaches who have gotten their team a premiership? Or is he a myth who will be exposed once the big 3 retire ,
    • There is no doubt in my mind that BA is a very good coach and has driven the improvement in the squad. Whilst he has been responsible for the improvement in the Eels. The players have played their part but it has been driven by the coach and his staff.

Bellamy is a very good coach. Whilst he has had the luxury of a champion spine to work with for about 10 years he has rebuilt the team around them a number of times using Journeyman and young stars

I think that we will see the best of this Eels squad in 2019 when we will have the younger player's with more experience and a few more recruits

  •  John Eel: If BA is given the responsibility of the Eels 'surge' at this stage of the season, it is in order to give him responsibility of the four consecutive losses produced earlier in the season. It seems as though we will make the eight this season, if not the four, ,although nothing is written in stone, it is the first time the coach has has done that in three years of coaching. One swallow does not make a summer. There is no such thing as a great coach, they don`t exist, take Hasler and Mcguire (Mag) as examples, both deemed great coaches universally by the NRL fans and the media. Both on a million dollar salary--yet look at them now! Coaches get money for jam. If the NRL is going to reduce their salaries, it is a good thing. Don`t see it happening though.

  • I hope Brad paid a LOT of attention to the way the Cows took the game to Storm.

Treat them with disrespect and hammer them mercilessly, they will drop their bundle.

That's how we beat the Bronx.

Apart from that you are on the money imo.

New combination that is coming into its own - committed forward pack PLUS we are no longer depending on just ONE player to make things happen - we are playing as a team.
