GAME MANAGEMENT IS STILL A PROBLEM

As much as it is good to see another win to the Eels - I'm still concerned at our inability to close a game on our terms. A number of times we have been up with 20 or less minutes to go and instead of putting the opposition to the sword we let in a try or two and end up having to hold on until the final whistle.

Tonight we were 14 points up and had a set of 6 on the Warriors line about 10 metres out. This was with about 15 mins to go. We played out 6 hit ups 1 out and turned the ball over without asking any questions or looking for a repeat set. We then gave away a try and lost all momentum.

Good decision making at these critical times is still lacking. Why do we consistently struggle in this area?

  • We were out on our feet. We played the majority of the game with 15 men and the majority of the 2nd half with 14. Not to mention all the battered bodies who stayed on the field.

Guys were playing tired, busted and out of position. Give it a rest, great win.

Also don't let last weeks score lines fool you. If it wasn't for the refs we win by 20.
    • Yes the refs let them back into the match as per usual. We get penatlies in our own 20, other teams get them close to our try line.

    • I get that for tonight - believe me I'm happy. I just think that we make things harder for ourselves than we need to. When was the last time we played out a win where there was no doubt about the result during the last 10 mins?

    • Well said Eels 93.
    • Yep..to somehow win this game with everything thrown against at as was outstanding...just ask BA game arrangement..& the blokes who busted their arse off ...to get the 2 points..... fuckin ridiculous blog...

  • Skipper, you have to consider the fact that a lot of the Eels players playing tonight were carrying injuries: Moroea, Scott, Brown, Moses and on top of that Moses has only played 3 games with the Eels as one of there major playmakers! Add to that Mitchell Moses is yet to play 1 game alongside Corey Norman. Now add to that players playing out of position because 2 players had to come off due to injuries: Hoffman, Pritchard. Now add to that those that went on namely Gower came off with a broken hand.
Considering ALL the above the Eels proved they're a gutsy, die hard team that is willing to roll up their sleeves and do the yard yards and win at all costs. A great tough hard ugly win!
  • Summed up pretty well slip
  • Yep - agreed - a very good, gutsy win. I'm just thinking as an overall pattern that we seem to have when leading in the second half. I think we still make it harder than we need to.

  • Put alot of that on the reffs lately they try every thing to bring the opposition into the game especially in our on 20m. And
  • FFS......there's no pleasing some people on this forum.
We were busted and down to one sub on the bench and you question our game management? Not to mention Mannah, Vave, Terepo, Norman, Jennings who are all part of our starting 17 on the sidelines!
Let's put the win into perspective!
