game management.

There are only a few things the Eels need to fix up for 2021.

The first as everyone knows is their backline defence. The outside backs need to have more trust in each other
and commmunicate to each other more.

Secondly as many people have said. They need to play less side to side footbal, have the backs stand deeper and play it up the middle more.
When they do play it up the middle the Eels forwards have shown they are the equal of any of the top sides.
Additionally, both forwards and backs should employ a short passing game more often similiar to the way Canberra play which to me
looks very much influenced by the way the All Blacks play.

Thirdly, they need to be more patient when they are behind on the scoreboard. With the six again
rule, time in posession is more crucial. They need to be more tactical in these situations.

Captaincy. Clint Gutherson is a great player. He is a very instinctual player and he clearly loves spontanious footy, but I don't think he is always able to
communicate to his players the right strategy to employ both in attack and defence when the team is under the pump.

The question is. Is Brad Arthur aware of this?

To my mind, some of these problems have been exacerbated by the six again rule of which I am not a fan.
But it looks like it wont be going away anytime soon.

Lastly they need to take less notice of comments like the one Gus Gould made about
them "having a soft underbelly." This sort of comment is just TV talk. The Eels have alyways shown plenty of heart and
committment in all their games this year.

I welcome your comments.

      • That's the problem Carlo.

BA hasn't instilled an identifiable system that our guys know they can depend on, a structure, (for the lack of a better word), that when things go sideways on us, we can revert to. When Melbourne are under the pump, you know exactly what they are going to do, same with the Roosters, and because we don't have that structure, and the confidence that comes with it, we get frenetic, because we can't see where our next points are coming from, so we try everything & anything, with the inevitable results being we cough up possession, and then we compound the error with penalties & 6 agains.

        Rinse and repeat.

Now, a change of assistants may help in this department, and I'm prepared to give BA one more year if that's the road he and the club decide to go down, but I'm not holding my breath.

100% you are on the money, Ryles has said that from day 1. For me, the tell is Jim making a point of it being known it is 'Ryles' decision' and not a 'club decision'.
