Frontloading contracts

With us being so far under the Salary cap for the 2011 season is there anyway that we can frontload the contracts of players we want to resign?

This way Kearney will be able to start to build a squad with the players that he wants and it will give us plenty of cash to throw at some big names for 2012. Thoughts???

  • Thye will do so you would think with future contracts but I don't think they can chop and change current contracts.

Front loading is risky beacuse if the player walks or you want to let him go yoiu've paid overs at that point.

  • Am pretty sure the NRL have rules that disallow that. Couldn't tell you where in their salary cap charter but I've heard the option raised on 2UE's Sports Today and John Gibbs said that frontloading was against NRL by-laws.

  • I hope they were only referring to current contract being ammended.

It wouldn't make sense to disallow front ended contracts when you can backend a contract, allow bnouses for rep appearances and so forth.

  • As far as I understand, you can't change an existing contract, but if you negotiate a new contract to say extend a player's contract by a couple of years then you can revisit the terms and that would allow you to use up some of that cap.

You don't have much of a thought when it comes to footy do ya. It takes a little more then one full game in the six to be a six. "
