Hey Benny not the same old jokes again really.we need something different. Better off disappearing and new user name for next year, start of fresh so to speak.
Top four teams. Not even close.
This is a fact
If my memory serves me well, the Eels are only the 9th team in the history of the game to go from wooden spoon to playoffs.
Pretty special to climb 11 positions in one year.
Des has now lost 2 in a row. If he loses again next week is he still in line for coach of the year. Not as good a coach without Tommy Turbo
This says it all really. It's not about Hasler's coaching... it's about Tommy Turbo's brilliance.
Arthur's done an incredible job this year to go from spoon to 5th with only 1 rep player in the team. Probably not enough to be the coach of the year in my opinion, but he's done better than Des.
I got shot down from everyone I know for pointing out that Des wasn't the super coach that turned manly around. With Tommy T injured Manly started season 4 wins from 11. With Tommy they won 7 straight. Since then I don't know the exact stats but have now struggled without him again. It clearly shows that Tommy T hit a level of form that had manly winning and Al ltye talk of des the super coach were over the top.
If Turbo trobejvic can get a full season uninjured he would have to be dally m favourite as he doesn't have share dally m points with team of stars like teddy.
FM the other point that needs to be made about Des is that he inherited this team and is therefore not entitled to any kudos for the shape of the team.
Next year however will be different. Next year he starts to shape the team to his preffered style. That will be when it gets interesting. Having said that I do not believe that he will return to the Dogs style of play.
What I have noticed though is we are already starting to hear the old lines being trotted out again. by the players"we are happy to take a pay cut just to play in this team". I think we have heard this line before and it ended in tears with Manly taking a hit for cheating the cap.
John not only salary cap stories for Manly but Badel in courier Mail has 2 current stories about brisbane players taking unders to stay. Even claiming Sydney sides need to pay over 20% more to lure a player. He also made claim he performed an in depth investigation into their cap position yet then only had estimated cap values for each player. So with Fifita claims of $1 million dollar offers from Sydney, we are supposed to believe he will turn down an extra $200k year because how expensive Sydney is to live in. Pretty sure an extra $600-800k over 3 to 4 years is well over any differences in living expenses .
It reminds me of Crawley's regular piece on the roosters cap management, they make up some numbers to show the team are actually a couple hundred thousand under the cap prior to announcing the upgraded contract or signing of a star player.
Pretty sure it is pre emotive media blitz prior Broncos announcing Fifita has resigned for massive unders. I'm glad Parra didn't get him though if figures talked about were real as $1 million or close to is way to much for an inexperienced player like Fifita.
