French & Gordon Swap

Next weekend against the Tigers (now that we can't make the semi's) is the right time to swap French and Gordon or at least interchange between them at fullback.  I think having Gordon on the wing with French at fullback will assist French with an old head helping him out.  As the club is in negotiations with Hayne it would be good to get a look at French at fullback prior to making a decision on signing or not signing Hayne.

  • We'll sign Hayne either way
  • Can frenchy kick goals too
    • He has more skill than anyone else in our side so it wouldn't surprise me if he can.
  • In the Titans game, French popped up on both wings in the first 20 minutes. Oh wait, that was just the commentators not knowing the difference between Butetta Faraimo and Bevan French. Same BF I guess.
But anyway, note French did occupy the fullback spot in a few plays. One a set play from a scrum and a few broken field plays too. So BA might just be slowly adding FB, the opposite to BF ironically, to French's game?
  • I wouldn't have french at fullback. His body development is nowhere near what it should be for a NRL player.
If our team was fully fit, he'd be playing 20s.
    • You are probably right, but as it is a dead rubber and that the Tigers are not a big side or top 4 team I would give him at least 20 minutes at the back to gauge his progression.  If it doesn't work move him back to the wing.  We have to start planning for the future!

  • I wouldn't mind seeing this happen too Big Dave.

I would love to see what French can do with a bit more open space at fullback because he's a bit too vulnerable on the wing and teams are targeting him which might do more harm to his confidence than good.

Now that we're out of contention, I would love to see a bit of foresight from BA into next year.

I think we also need to Keep Gutherson at 6 and see how that progresses. Norman at 7, Gutherson at 6 has long term potential (from the two games we've seen so far).

    Thoughts?
  • Bout time we do. Even if its only in attack. There's nothing to lose by giving him time there. We can try a few things for next year or just keep doing the same thing even though the seasons over. I know which I'd prefer.
