French and Semi our future fullbacks

Its starting to become obvious.... We play the 2 fullback type of game now and i like it. We keep that extra man in the defense line on 5th tackle, French simply scoots across and Semi simply drops back. Both sides of the field covered, works perfect for Semi to return the ball too. Also when attacking inside the 40 from a scrum Semi always plays the fullback role first reciever skips across the defense line draws a couple defenders and always gets us into the 2 on 1 edge plays.I think we add fullback to Semis resume now to be able to justify paying him what he deserves. Thoughts?

    • I don't think we keep him for that.  I'd say we will need to offer at least 600K.  Although his official position is wing and one can argue that you don't pay that much for a winger, it's not as if that is the actual position he plays.

During games he roams the field often popping up on the other side and he finds himself at fullback during kick returns often enough.  Semi is the one WINGER that does warrant the 600k IMO.

  • personally i'd rather semi at fb, because i envisage we could keep both if semi plays there.

  • We will need to offer Semi about what we were going to pay Hayne to get him to stay at the club in my opinion. The question will be whether we can afford it and whether we think he is worth it.

I think he is worth it even if he stays at wing, he is our main early tackle hit up man, our main try scorer along with French (when playing with a centre who passes that is) and as seen in the last match against the Dragons with that pass to French is a lot more creative then given credit for.

  • I agree he has taken the wing position to a whole new level. Interesting points guys. 600k a yr at least for a 2 yr contract with option of upgrade and extension. He is worth it and French is just pure footballer as Taka said
  • It's his output that is important rather than his position. The only bloke who makes more carries for us is Manu Ma'u. And he could be getting offers of $800k for his next contract. Radradra is worth $600k+ easy.
    • Spot on Pou... both those guys a priority to me
