Free play rule

I have really liked the free play rule after the other team looses possession, gives you a chance to play open football that is fun to watch, takes the did they or did they not have an advantage out of the game. Do you think they should bring it into the season proper?

  • Nope, no one in our team is smart enough to utilize it.
Plus the refs are dumb enough without giving them more to think about.
  • But it would take the refs "interpretation" of the rules out of the game.
As for our team I think giving Foran, Norman, Jennings and Semi a free play to go for it could be scary good.
  • Definitely not. The one thing I like is barely any scrums. That's one rule that needs to change
  • Loses not looses...sorry had to say, noticed everyone use that word looses...yeah yeah I'm a spelling Nazi so Seig heil Monster Furher

    • Ha ha :), ok good call on the spelling but did you have thought on the rule?
  • This is Phil Gould's garbage he always wanted.
  • Upside to the free play rule? Team makes an error, the opposition gets one chance to do something risk-free. This adds adventurous play to the game?
The only downside argument would have to involve debating whether the punishment fits the crime, so to speak? That is, whether the attacking benefit gained by the opposition in response to an error is too much? Maybe one might think the increased consequences of error would encourage more timid risk-avoidance play?
OVERALL: teams already focus on error reduction and know errors are punished. The free play rule would just add unpredictability and creativity to the mix of the consequences of error.

Samrami under normal circumstances would be in the top 19.
