It means they have more money to spend on NRL rights and also there's potentially another competitor in Optus for the broadcasting rights of the other 4 games which means Fox will have to up their deal if they want them. If Fox lose the NRL from the beginning of the next deal then I'd say a lot more people will be cancelling their subscription.
This is fantastic news for the NRL. Luckily Dave Smith didn't bend over and cop whatever Fox were originally offering.

Could mean that NRL is going to miss out big time. I originally thought Ch 9 deal was a good deal but if they have pick of 4 top games not sure going to be easy to sell the other 4 matches for any decent coin.
How could the NRL miss out big time? Fox will be wanting NRL to keep a fair chunk of their NSW and QLD subscription base so they will be forced to put more money on the table to keep the NRL.
