Former Parramatta CEO Scott Seward has been charged with fraud for his role in the salary cap scandal.
Officers from Strike Force Rhodium, assembled to forensically pore over the dodgy deals done at the Eels, laid charges after meeting Seward on Friday. Seward is the second major scalp after former football manager Jason Irvine was charged with fraud offences over the use of false invoices.
The strike force was established last May in relation to finance being derived by the NRL club through false or inflated invoices to suppliers paid by the Parramatta Leagues Club. Seward was charged at Day Street police station and issued with a future court attendance notice for the charges of fraud and make false statement with intent to commit fraud. He is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on May 19.
Fraud and cybercrime squad co-ordinator detective chief inspector Matt Craft praised the meticulous work of Strike Force Rhodium investigators.
"We have gathered a large amount of information – more than 500,000 pieces of documentation and emails – which we are continuing to examine," Craft said.
"It has been a tedious process so far, but our investigation is gathering momentum.
"As our inquiries continue, we are focusing on the suspected use of false invoices to disguise payments to players. It doesn't appear to have been an isolated incident or the actions of just one individual.
"This is the second person we have charged and we anticipate more in the not too distant future.
"We believe there are a number of people who have knowledge of fraudulent activity, as well as those who are suspected or alleged to be involved, and we urge them to get in touch with us sooner rather than later."
The salary cap scandal resulted in the Eels being stripped of 12 competition points, a $750,000 fine and the sacking of the leagues club board. The drama was one of the biggest scandals in Australian sport and cruelled the club's chances of competing in the 2016 finals series.

Can't we just rejoice in the sleeze bag dog Seward starting to get his Frankie. Aren't you pleased?
Ozzie didn't have enough time to cheat the salary cap, he was too busy spending it on his groceries.
As for 3p and their fake members. Who did Spags know to get the POLICE licensing board to drop the case.
