Referees coach Tony Archer doesn't understand obstruction, players need only take a dive to stop a try and it's "a sad day for footy and its fans". That's the view of former first grade player and referee Luke Phillips, expressed on Facebook over the weekend and shared on social media by others in the officiating fraternity. "The bunker has now made obstruction black and white," Phillips wrote. "No point having ex footballers in their [sic] now. The refs have a refs boss who has no idea on obstruction. And can only understand black and white. Players only need to take a dive now to get a penalty. Sad day for footy and its fans. Pattern [sic - Luke] and [Ben] Galea are now just button pushers." Among the commenters was former top ref Paul McBlane, who wrote – in part – "Had enough of this crap".

  • How in fek is Luke Pattern making the decisions, the poor blokes eyes are watching each other and it gets worse on a weekly basis, how can the bloke even see the monitor, has anybody given this guy an eye test?

    • lol, his coaches used to tell him "catch the ball in the middle"

    • That's why they have more than one monitor Snake.

He can watch 6 screens without moving his head.
    • Commonly known as chips and dip! One eye on the chips, one eye on the dip!
    • Good call snake!
    • Lol.. typical Snake

  • Very true.
We footy fans were the big losers last night. That try was a beauty and we should've been able to enjoy and celebrate it....party poopers!

The other thing about making it such a definite black and white thing, makes it really to exploit also.. Not saying the Cows player did it intentionally last night, but he definitely stepped across into Ma'u's path,

**Note to all defending teams- even if you have no chance of getting across to tackle the ball runner, go outta your way to step into the decoy =no try.
  • Hahaha!
  • Have you seen how many screens desks and chairs are in there LOL, its set up for about 50 people, it reminds me of a NASA launch station.

    • Ground control to Major Tom ?

Snake, they must need a couple more.none of the ones they've got pick up on head shots on Parra players no try rulings haha.

"I did modern day as 1998 onwards as I didn't see them play, as some here haven't. Where I believe majority of people here have seen all the modern day players play.
Plus it frees up some spots like we all know who 5/8 will be but now no idea."
