Foran & our training/warm-up setup

Just a quick thought on how we run this currently - with Foran a week to week proposition would it not make sense for players other than Kelly to run in the halves (e.g. Taka/Edwards/Pritchard), given that if Foran does a hammy in the warm-up, we won't have Kelly there anyway? Kelly nor Cornish warmed up with the side on Saturday, so surely during the week it makes more sense to only use those players who will be in the 17 to fill-in if Foran does something?Obviously if Foran is confirmed out early, then train with Kelly/Cornish. But like this week, Foran is hardly training, but Kelly has reportedly run at halfback. Why? If Foran is injured in the warm-up or during the game, we can't just grab one of our depth halves and put a jersey on them. But we can be prepared for that event by making sure we have players who can do the job who are in our lineup anyway. We saw in Rd1 how lost we were in the 2nd half with Edwards/Pritchard at 5/8 and Kelly at half. Surely if we train these players in the halves when Foz is sitting it out like this week, it is a better preparation given for us in the event of a Foz injury, and improves players skills. Kelly just wont play this week with Foran a definite starter, so don't train him there for the 1's team. It's redundant. Same for Cornish. Play Edwards, or Taka or Pritchard, or anyone else who is in the 17. They will benefit and it gives them a better skill set in the event of future injuries in warm up or during the game. This is only when Foz is having a rest form training, not if he is definitely out of the next game (in which case it DOES make sense to use Kelly or Cornish in the FG side during training sessions).

  • I still maintain that French or Pritchard should be made to learn to play and defend in the halves. They're a dime a dozen good halves and worth big money.

    • Doesn't 'dime a dozen' mean something that is worthless because there are so many of them? Good halves certainly are not a dime a dozen.

    • Dear oh dear....
  • lol

    • Is a rolling stone worth 2 birds in the bush?... this is all very confusing.

        • I thought two in the bush was worth one in the ass? I have a headache now.

  • Are paragraphs too much to ask for? Seriously, it's a wall of words.

Same goes for the dude that writes the game day blog. Good stuff, but please make it readable!
    • Why complain on a bloggjng site? Who cares if spelling isn't 100%, or people don't use correct grammar (I aas guilty as anyone else). So what if people just put a slab of info and post it? Stop being an ass about it and trying to be funny. This has to be the most pathetic comment people can type.

      Grammar Nazi.
  • I think you'll find that BA wants everyone training in their actual position. Kelly just slots in so that they can continue to train where they need to.
I don't think it's worth training people out of position and moving combos around for something that *may* happen in a game.
Kaysa is maybe the exception as no.14
    • Edwards and Pritchard would both be off the bench though so they wouldn't always be on even at training? Same with Gower who has ball skills. May as well use them at 5/8 instead of standing around at training when the starting 13 are on.
