Foran, not so innocent

Listening and reading the media, Foran is portrayed as the morally correct, true to his word, honourable stand up guy who has been betrayed by the Eels.

Please, it's clear the only reason he ever signed was because of the most laughable contract clause in sporting history.

Little wonder he shut the f up in the lead up to June 30. Why would he jeopardise a lotto win, his management must of been giggling for months.

More laughable is that he signed to play for Arthur, his story would be convincing if our coach was Bennett, Hasler or Belamy, but Arthur?

It's clear Foran had no intention to see out his contract, why in world would he? Only a fool would not walk away with million dollars for just leaving and then signing another multimillion dollar deal with his club of choice.

I was shocked when we signed him, now we know why, he won't be with us next season, not without the most ridiculous, laughable, almost criminal clause I've ever seen.

Foran, say all you want to Danny Weidler, you had every intention to take us for a ride, you and your management had our dumb arse management fooled, the NRL picked you up and saved us from disaster.

  • I have to agree, he's not a saint. When big money is involved, they always give reasons, like a new challenge, the coach etc etc, whatever bs thing they come up with. This was for the money. He knew of Parramatta's management woes and had an insurance policy written in, not only get the biggest money going while he was here, but of it goes to shit, he can pull the pin whenever and get a nice little $1m handshake? Really?

As I always say, I want players who want to buy into the culture, for sure they should be compensated for their talent and I am happy to pay top dollar for a player like Foran, but this clause shows where his heart lies. He can have the Brad Arthur clause but this one is a money grab.
  • The problem will be that if he goes it doesn't matter if NRL haven't registered contract. It will still be a legally binding contract. On the face of it we will still have to pay $1m to him.
That will come out of the cap.
    • I don't think so. Just like the contracts aren't legally binding until Round 13, they aren't legally binding until registered by the NRL.
  • Doubt it
    Foran seems decent
I am sure Foran acted in good faith but probably had cold feet at making a big change and his management tried to make it as easy as possible for him to get out
    • While taking a massive pay out? Easy to get out... pull the other one. He would walk into any team, he didn't need a pay out clause.

  • When you put an offer or contract to another party in a negotiation you always shoot for the stars and then work your way back. You're an idiot if you don't. Fran's management shot for the stars, and we signed it. Who's the idiot here?
Foran did what any person should do in a contract negotiation situation by the sounds of it. And we screwed up royally. From the evidence presented that sounds how it played out. If that's the case I don't hold it against Foran one iota.
    • Captain my captain, well said, probably too sensible for some people on here.
  • It's Parramatta's fault

Parramatta are 100% responsible for this mess

    Blame Parramatta you MORONS

    nobody else

  • More speculation presented as facts.
    • Really My Bob? Why can't he accept a clause that simply allows him to leave if Arthur leaves, or if he feels the board is dis-functional?

Why would an elite player need to paid 1 million dollars because "he" chooses to leave?

An elite player like Foran would not be short of an offer should he choose to walk away from his contract.

The fact that his 1 million dollar compensation payment not being honoured is the reason for him not agreeing to terms shows his intent.

We are to blame for this fiasco, we probably wouldn't of signed him without a ridiculous clause in his contract. I don't blame Foran for this mess, we created this situation. My only point is, Foran and the media are portraying him as a total victim when all along he and his management were taking advantage of a desperate bunch of fools.
