Flanagan set to sign new deal at Cronulla -

Sharks coach rewarded after good start to rebuild.

The rebuilding job of Sharks coach Shane Flanagan appears set to earn him a contract extension.

According to NRL.com, a new two or potentially even three year extension is being finalised between Cronulla and Flanagan’s manager Wayne Beavis.

The move comes as Cronulla tries to eliminate Flanagan from conversations regarding other head coaching jobs, with many appearing to be up for grabs after the 2019 season.

Flanagan is one of the many coaches coming out of contract next season, names which include Brad Arthur, Dean Pay, Anthony Seibold and Paul McGregor.

Elsewhere, Penrith’s attempts to lure West Tigers’ coach Ivan Cleary and Wayne Bennett potentially seeking a move from Brisbane could see a changing landscape in the coaching ranks within the competition.

The move to keep Flanagan appears to also be a maneuver to keep Flanagan’s son Kyle who can being negotiations for the 2020 season from November 1.

“I want to stay at the club, there’s no question about that,” Flanagan told Sky Sports Radio on Sunday morning.

“We’re in a really good position. Our second grade [Intrust Super Premiership feeder side Newtown Jets] made it through to the grand final yesterday and our 20s are playing in a grand final qualifier today.

“So the club’s in really good shape. I want to be there for a couple more years, we’ve laid the foundations and I see some good times ahead.”

Cronulla faces the Melbourne Storm in a 2016 Grand Final rematch in the preliminary final this Friday night.

  • Go B.A. !

  • Michael Ennis we need you bring jason taylor with you and if you want bring wayne Bennett to lead you both to show you the ropes

  • Oh ok sorry I don’t like it
  • Don't worry Bushy will probably sign a 3 year extension next year because no decent coach will come near the joint.

  • If I was Shane Flanagan I would not want to leave. He would have to be a complete nutter to want to leave a successful club and head to a basket case like.
