Fitness will win us the comp for 2009 or 2010

As you saw yesterday in the first 20 minutes our defence was simply fantastic. However it came down to fitness. If we were an unfit side like last year, we would have been smashed. It was good fitness especially in the forwards with Moimoi, Mannah, Cayless, Smith and Hindmarsh that let the team make 341 tackles and 1329m. If there's anything that will give us a premiership, its fitness, because without it our defence would be crap. Hopefully in the off season DA trains the boys harder(especially Poore who is already quite fit and Shackleton) and they should all be capable of playing 80 minutes at full intensity. If we have the best forward pack, without a doubt the backs and Hayne should be able to do their thing and take us to a premiership.

  • Fully agree David. If ever a team deserved to capitulate, it was the Eels and full-credit to everyone involved with the club that has gotten the boys to this level of fitness.

To be honest, I never understood why we were so off-the-pace in terms of fitness given that Hayden Knowles is regarded as one of the best in the business.
    • Yeah Hayden Knowles is brilliant. He's changed Hayne's body a lot.
  • I was out of breath just watching that first 20!
